Resources you give to NPC allies

I have a question. When I give resources to my allies, do they actually use it? or do they just thank me and it dissappears. Do the NPCs have resource counters just like real players? or do they just make units every so often?

They do have resource counters, as you can plainly see their fleet production come to a grinding halt if you cripple their economy. That said, I have noticed the AI sometimes builds up huge amounts of stockpiled cash for some unknown reason. So yes, your feed will help them in most cases. Mind you, all AI's of hard and higher difficulty cheat for additional resources, and spend them foolishly, so it's probably not the best way to spend that cash.

I suggest reconsidering whether or not you want to give resources to the AI at all. The AI is not bad as far as computer AI goes, but it's unlikely that the AI will be able to make better use of the resources than you can. The AI has almost no sense of real strategy or tactics and does an awful job of micromanaging its ships. However, perhaps helping the AI to fight other AI might make sense, but if I were you I'd rather use the resources and credits to make myself more powerful. Really, the best thing you can do is to use that money to wipe out opposing AI players.

Note that in the online multiplayer community, people barely regard AI as a player at all and hope that, at best, an AI ally (which takes over when human teammates drop) will serve as a meatshield or minor distraction to opponents.
