It's all about the colors!

Well, the most obvious update is that we changed the color scheme and style of the main WC2K5 site.  We did this to help answer the many complaints we had received over the pastel looking colors.  Hopefully this change will be more appealing to the masses.  However, we are not done with the overall look of the site.  There are still some areas that we wish to colorize further.  As an example, on the main site it is our plans to have each tab(section) have it's own color combination.  But we are going to try and stay away from the pastel colors and try to use more dark and warm colors. 

Finally we are starting to get some of the preferences from the old site into place.  The Max # of skins per page and Ratings filters are now in place.  Just to go your My Account page and on the Preferences page you can adjust these settings.  Over the course of the next month or so we will try and get some more settings in place but these were on the top of the list.

We are also trying to get navigation nailed down a little bit better in the forums.  There is a new navigation bar that appears when you are in a specific channel or reading a forum post.  This navigator bar allows you to jump right back to that channel or parent channel.  Also, if you are in OS Customization and click on the link to create a new post it will automatically select that channel for you saving you a click and page refresh.

And earlier in the week you probably saw that we changed the look of the main gallery page to a thumbnail view.  Now we are still working on the thumbnails.  To get this page to look its best we want the thumbnails to be a consistance size.  However, not all of the screenshots are the same so this is a little bit tougher. Right now we are forcing them all to be the same so many of the thumbnails are stretched.  We hope to in the near future change this to set max dimensions on them but we need to do some backend work first before we can make this happen.

Also I want to thank CerebroJD again for taking some time and creating new smilies for WinCustomize.  I really like the look of them and hope you do to! :CONGRAT:

Danillo0c, you'll be able to soon type newest.wincustomize.com and that will display the newest stuff. We just don't have that in.  But you could then make that your home page.

Under the "my skins" tab, "submissions" is still mispelled as "submitions". Then it is really giving the number of submissions and not the # of uploads accepted. For example it has (6) submissions for wallpapers for me and really, I only have two walls that were accepted and visible on that page. Was this intentional?

The style, layout and colors are all MUCH nicer.

Personally what I'd like to see long-term is the ability for users to customize parts on their own. Ie...and interface to create a per-user style sheet.

I'm happy to see there is a favorable opinion of the new design. whew!

So... what color combinations would you like to see? We're taking suggestions.

Nomad 529, So its light grey 244,244,244, whatever, but to me its WHITE and bright OK. Its fine if you have great peepers I don't. I would just like a bit of flexibility to be able to alter the background OK

Hello Ande!

Thank you for posting. Quick question for ya. If you where given a choice as to what color you would like the background to be, what color would it be? If possible, please be specific such as mentioning any RGB values, or a Hex values. In addition, you may like to make a mock up so we can get an idea of what people, such as your self in the community are looking for.

First of all let me say the new WC sight is absolutely great. Somthing like the grey on the left of the screen. (or any derivative) Just not whitish. I am also well aware the preferences of one person will not/and should not influence the final composition of the site. And I thank you very much for your interest.

I kind of like the colour it is now....it needs to be different than the one on the left, I think, in order to help the eye distinguish between the zones of the page.

I like the great updates, but why don't you keep the "Total downloads" in "My skin" section? I think it's really interesting to see the number increasing.

Thanks for all the kudos on the new design and also keep coming up with the suggestions. We may not be able to get them all in or at least right now but we listen to them all and do what we can.

this may have been hit on in the past, but.. have you looked at a 'my wincustomize' where the home page displays an individual users favorites? ie the newset icon packages, newest windowblinds, smoeone else may want to see the newest wall papers only, samaurize, and so on.. or was that the object of having our personal web pages (which i've not even looked at yet)?

I think the frames in the main body area should better match the style of the top buttons.

In other words the "Browse Site" container should look more like the "Log Out" button. Would make the site a little more consistant.

Still lookin good though. The "Custa-Lizard" looks way better than he did in the past. He used to look corny, but now he's pretty cool. Time to make a new t-shirt that isnt lame

Got a strange one...

If i go into "my skins" and look at the drop down for the items (Wallpaper/windows media/etc) I see a # in (X) next to each category, but they dont match up with the actual # of items in that list.

IE: It shows Wallpaper (7), but when I look in that listing it shows 3 Wallpapers. I think it is counting ones that didnt make the cut and make it to the site.

Just passing on info.

T-Man,

I was directed to you by another user. I'm having trouble submitting wallpaper to the system. I've sumitted the same wallpaper twice. Each time in My Skins is shows that it is awaiting approval, however, I come in the next day to see that it has vanished from the My Skins area. Do you have any idea why this isn't working for me?
