More WC Updates

It's all about the colors!

Well, the most obvious update is that we changed the color scheme and style of the main WC2K5 site.  We did this to help answer the many complaints we had received over the pastel looking colors.  Hopefully this change will be more appealing to the masses.  However, we are not done with the overall look of the site.  There are still some areas that we wish to colorize further.  As an example, on the main site it is our plans to have each tab(section) have it's own color combination.  But we are going to try and stay away from the pastel colors and try to use more dark and warm colors.

Finally we are starting to get some of the preferences from the old site into place.  The Max # of skins per page and Ratings filters are now in place.  Just to go your My Account page and on the Preferences page you can adjust these settings.  Over the course of the next month or so we will try and get some more settings in place but these were on the top of the list.

We are also trying to get navigation nailed down a little bit better in the forums.  There is a new navigation bar that appears when you are in a specific channel or reading a forum post.  This navigator bar allows you to jump right back to that channel or parent channel.  Also, if you are in OS Customization and click on the link to create a new post it will automatically select that channel for you saving you a click and page refresh.

And earlier in the week you probably saw that we changed the look of the main gallery page to a thumbnail view.  Now we are still working on the thumbnails.  To get this page to look its best we want the thumbnails to be a consistance size.  However, not all of the screenshots are the same so this is a little bit tougher. Right now we are forcing them all to be the same so many of the thumbnails are stretched.  We hope to in the near future change this to set max dimensions on them but we need to do some backend work first before we can make this happen.

Also I want to thank CerebroJD again for taking some time and creating new smilies for WinCustomize.  I really like the look of them and hope you do to! :CONGRAT:

Ok, I guess you can't quite reach the new preferences in my account yet as I have not updated the personal sites yet.

You can also get to it from this URL:  http://www2.wincustomize.com/myaccount.aspx?p=2

I like this colors but i have to say that the "Newest" and "Recently Updated Skin" should stay on the home/index, this is a very important point to me as user cause when i type www.wincustomize.com the first thing taht i want to see is what's new and not what is "popular" but it's only my opinion Congratulations for the great work with the news colours and settings

I tried to set 'watch' on that last comment and it just went to my watchlist page and said there were no items being watched.

~ Very nice work on the color scheme. Much easier on the eyes. I'm still hoping for the ability to let the user customize the colors to their liking (fingers crossed). And for those of you who say there's still too much white...it's not white, it's a light grey (244,244,244).

~ The new smileys are pretty cool, too. Thanks Cerebro!

~ The forums are looking and acting much better. Definitely more organized and easier to navigate.

~ The thumbnails are looking pretty good in the gallery section. I'm still trying to figure out if that's a redundant page or not though. If I want to go directly to a certain gallery, why not just use the links in the left column?

~ I'm still unsure about the Featured Suite also. Since it's showing a "Premium Suite," why wouldn't be a part of The Store? IMO, it should be a user-submitted suite. Or maybe have it as a Featured Artist section and showcase a different artist each week with a link to their personal site.

~ The preferences still aren't working.

~ I think that's about it for the moment. All in all, I think the site is coming along great! I can't wait for the final product!!

~ Thank you to everyone involved in the creation of the new site. It shows the dedication people have to the skinning community and to the site. You're all doing great work!!
