question?

Okay, so i have not played sins in months and months.  After finally getting it installed and imulsed installed on my new laptop, updating sins, and spending an hour trying to remember my username, i go in to find that its not much more active, if even less active than when i left months ago.  Is this just because no one new has come, or because of the expansion pack?  Im getting the pack tomorrow (And now i dont really want to play a game of the old sins, looking foward to starbases to much..), but is the majority of multiplayer require the expansion pack?

The majority of the community is on entrenchment, yes. The # of people online varies. At peak hours though, I'd say a little under 200 is the most I've seen online recently. That's just me.

Welcome back. Like the name by the way. Great game, great books. Plenty of new players are joining daily. THe expansion has all the bugs worked out of it, so people seem to be coming back to sins a bit.

There are still people playing Vanilla, though in general you will have a harder time finding a game there.  The Sins community is... lower density than other multiplayer RTS games.  This has its upsides and downsides; it's harder to find the game you want, for sure, but on the other hand you really build a reputation with the community, and you will run into the same people in the future, which is kind of cool.
