Please Fix A General-Players's Broken Heart

Lets recreate generals. I am bored of my Queens static build.

I feel like i have been living a horrible lie in demigod. Yes i am a pretty good queen. Yes i win most matches and yes i can dish out massive damage with my build. But my build is an assasign. Frown

The last few games i have played have been played with the concious effort to be myself. I am a general dammit. It is terrible that the general build is nearly impossible to pull off effectivly. But  i have a few ideas that come from my game experience.

A)The Citidel upgrade that effect "reinforcments" shoul effect all idol/summons as well. This is for 3 reasons.

     1) It allows them to compete better in late game

     2) it may allow players to not invest in vaguely useless Minion-Only skills because the upgrades are doing that for them. this will make the gerneral build more viable. The biggest problem is how many summons require 12 skillpoints to be useful (and by lategame they are useless anyway)

     3) this will make players buy those upgrades more. The more power reinforcments have, the more effective being a general will be (the reinfocments take the damage..not you)

B) There needs to be an item(s) that give magic resistance ONLY to idol/summons. Magic damage is heavy late game. Some people say "buy minion health" but that is a good 6000 moneys for 400 health. Since aoe is so strong that health is pretty worthless. If a 35%-75% magic resistance was possible then many summons would benefit alot. They could actually attack a queen or torch or snipe. AS OF NOW< SUMMONS CANNOT EVER REACH A AOE DEMIGOD, WHICH IS THEIR PURPOSE.

C) Summons need to benifet automatically with every level-up of a demigod. If all summons become more powerful each level, then MAYBE...just maybe people will invest. Tis could be different for every demigod.

4) the random "+" ability needs to be doubles or trippled to be useful.

This seems like alot, and i believe it has to be. Queen can kill a whole field of summons in an instant. So can many other heros. Summons that could actually break through that would be wonderful and would return the general class back to its respectable roots.

Please allow the generals to have more than one build type(assasign). I want to play as a general. Please guys? Please?

I think all of this together would be a bit much, but I do agree that they need buffs.  Personally, I think they should scale with your gear (have certain things be based on you.  Priests heal more if you have more HP.  Attacks scale with your damage, etc.)  Or... just add more/larger +minion bonuses on gear

It's a balancing problem. If they would make minions stronger some assassins would have a really hard time. A good minion build can do a LOT of damage to a demigod without strong AoE. Torchy will roast the whole bunch and ask for seconds though. It is really hard to find a good balance without blurring the border between high burst damage to a single target and AoE. I think they did a pretty good job on the balance mostly.

Some items, like godplate, increase health damage and are pretty good on their own.  Maybe more armor should offer +minion health in addition to its current effects so that gearing up your DG is a more holistic process.

eh, some minions are good and others aren't.

Archer Idols, Priest Idols, Erebus' Nightwalkers, and Oak Spirits are all good minions. No issues. I use them all the time and get great results.

Minotaur Idols, Queen's Shamblers, and Sedna's Yetis are all crap. need buffs. needs buffs bad.

i don't think anything needs to be done except improving the underpowered minions. the rest of them seem to work well and be quite balanced.

A lot of people I talk to think that QoT has the best minions....Cuz they actually have range. Never heard someone claim that yetis are awesome though haha

I have tried numerous minion builds but they rarely seem to work, 2 problems:

1) AoE wtfpwns them

2) Enemy demigods can just run away from minions easily

I was expecting a topic about Heart of Life and how the heals from priests interrupt it.  :pout:

Erebus' Nightwalkers

I would say in reality they are crap. Going minion build with Erebus, actually really gimps you very badly.

The only reason why no one complains is that they are free.

QoT and Sedna minions cost a lot of Mana, and are just not efficient enough.

Oak is the only viable minion build general IMO. He can run a minion build in any game, as he has a lot of powerful synergies with his minions. His minions are highly movable and ignore creep waves.

QoT and Sedna, can run minion builds, but will be especially weak against TB and a mine heavy Reg (even an Ooze UB, can make your build ineffective). Seen as most games I play usually include one of those characters, it makes it silly to run the build. They definately need some more buffs as far as minions go.

All generals work fine with minion builds if you know how to do them properly. Erebus and Oak ramp up faster than Sedna and QoT but they can all be effective. QoT is my least favorite general to play as a full minion spec but it does work.

The main reasons why most people can't build an effective minion build is that they aren't buying the right equipment and they aren't getting the minion boosting skills.

Failing to do that means AoEs pwn you. If you do get the right equipment and skills you will pwn the AoErs unless its an AoE stun. Even with AoE stuns there is I beleive a consumable item that can counter it that no one uses. I have to test that item out the next time I go up against AoE stuns but it is rare that I do since only 2 DGs can do it and one rarely specs that way.

I will disagree with this, in terms that Sedna and QoT minion builds, they are effective in certain games.

Against any AoE proficient player, it is a waste of time.

I think the idea is that there needs to be some careful balance, with minions to make a minion build a little more effective.

It should be a viable alternative to an assassin type build, at the moment it is simply not. I find minion builds fun to play, I use them quite a lot, but I acknowledge them as being fun. They are ridicuously expensive with idol cost, and minion items.

I would really like to see a complete split in the item shops for Generals and Assassins, that would be completely cool. Where Generals would get specific items that would help them, rather than having a choice of Assassin items and a lot of expensive minion items.

I think Stardock/GPG have got it wrong with the next two DGs being assassins, because people play them more. It is simply because minion builds are not that viable and Generals (Sedna and QoT especially) are usually gimped with at least two skill trees and 1 stat upgrade tree that are completely ineffective.

I still think that a great way to improve minions is to give them status proccing effects. For example, Sedna is in woeful need of a snare, Yetis that could snare would make them far more tempting to use. Maybe, Shamblers could have a vines skill, where your opponent is rooted for 1 sec. Make it a 5% proc effect. Just little things to improve their use.

I think the HP/Damage is fairly OK, they just need something a little more special about them.

Edit : Also, I would like to see minion idols being scrapped as they are. The general should purchase the idol for a nominal fee like 500GP, then the idol should summon minions based on the level of the DG. The idol should be non-sellable and this would also remove the summon multiple minions problem.
