Online game lag issues

Hi,

European user sitting on 100/100mb fiber connection and im having some seiors lag issues when I do play Demigod online.

I have tested my broadband and I have 97.8MB/s Download speed and 99.5MB/s Upload speed, so I do know its not my conn at least. All ports that are recomended to have open are open.

Sitting on a massive system so it cant be hardware based lag either.

Is this game really supposed to be this bad  when it comes to online matches? I mean this games potential is in the online feature. And if thats not working then why bother playing it?

This. If someone has limitations (bandwith or cpu) it will drag down all the other players, you can't play at speed=1 for 5 players and have the sixth one at speed=-3 without desync problem, ergo your problems.

There are 4 main reasons to Demigod lag:

  • The highest ping path between any 2 players (You may sit in Europe getting nice ping from East Coast US and Asia and think it should be fine, but the Asia person would get bad ping from US East coast)
  • The computer speed of the slowest PC
  • The bandwidth of the slowest upload path (ADSL can have as low as 128kb upload)
  • Proxy connections

its a pain in the ass when people are uploading/downloading whilst the game is running and dont even bother to check when you tell them to.

especially when they say "but our ping is fine" >:(

It would be nice if the devs could come up with a way to give an other indicator than the ping. Something more accurate, the method is not important, just give a grade between 0 and 10. The reason for this: many people think that the ping is everything, and don't know shit about connections. I regularly see people with a ping of 200 ms being kicked, whereas it is totally possible to play perfectly with that kind of ping.

if you have 100/100 your max d/l is around 12mb/sec. The speed of your connection doesnt really matter when you pass 10/10 in terms of online gaming. You need to add a series of calculations. Your equipment, your cables, your ISP's config and gear. Just because you can download fast does'nt mean that you have good packet to other countries... your ISP's backbone could be crap (and many of em are). Best test would be if you can try it at a friend that has same ISP that you have.

Packloss status would be the best to have in lobby and ingame
