I think I have experienced my first ever blacklist. I am not sure, since I have never experienced one before. I went to read someone's article (someone I usually enjoy reading). I was reading the comments and was about to post. Then I realized that there was no link for me to comment. Then no link on any other article to comment either.

Does this mean I am blacklisted? If so, I have no idea why I would be. I don't remember any confrontation with this person. We do have different political leanings, but I always enjoyed the debate and don't think it ever got heated. I am a little confused.

I wish there was a way for someone to post or message you when they blacklist you. I would at least like to know what I am being punished for.

It doesn't feel good to be blacklisted. I don't like it. I feel guilty that I may have upset someone and do not even know it. Yucky!

I've removed the blacklist. Sorry, I really didn't mean to blacklist you, I'm not sure why that happened and I would not have been so arrogant as to have commented on your thread knowing that it was me that you referred to. The reason I blacklisted your husband was because I wrote an article about my feelings post election which was rather melodramatic and theatrical and therefore didn't post it to the forums but left in solely on my blog. I took his comments to be rude, and asked him not to come back twice...he kept returning so rathering than take down the article, I blacklisted. I figured it would only be temporary when I did it, and it seems like nows as good a time as any to remove it.

I am sorry for making you feel bad, that was never my intention. I just needed some cooling off time without someone telling me how "unremarkable" I am.

I'm still confused as to why it blacklisted you. Even when I removed it, only his username was on the list.

Have you been able to comment on other sites that have him blacklisted?

BTW--I am finding it rather amusing to read through the comments now knowing that it was me (since I didn't have a clue the first time I read them)...though I am confused by Dr. Guy's comment cause I've never blacklisted him...

I don't know. I have never ran into this situation before. I don't know who has him blacklisted and who doesn't.

if the two of you use the same static connection--and the blacklist targets by ip#--that would seem the most likely explanation.

I am absolutely amazed by this discussion...no joke!

The first thing that amazes me is that most of you appear to know each other, and second of all, though my inventory could be completely off, your opinions wildly differ from each other.

Finally, I didn't realize people use the blacklist function...that's kind of scary isn't it? I mean, someone mentioned that continually abusive posters deserve the blacklist--I agree with that one. But how often do you guys place someone on the blacklist? I guess when I post something here, I'm definitely looking for a wide range of responses...or else I could just talk to myself (okay, I talk to myself, too).

I've only been posting here for a couple of weeks, so my judgement doesn't come from months of experience, but while it seems that the general slant on this site seems conservative, there are a wide variety of takes.

Anyway, I was just curious if a lot of you know each other, and if you all use the blacklist option on a regular basis.

I appreciate this post a lot, iamheather, and also the candor of your screen name.

We don't "know" each other in the traditional sense of the word. I feel like almost all of the people here are my friends, though, and that I "know" them in a sense. Yes our opinions differ vastly, but that is one of the things I love about this community. In life, people rarely become friends with others outside their little comfort zone. JU is completely different. May I recommend an article by Texas Wahine JU is a community

I don't think any true veteran of JU could help but comment on this article. Who hasn't been in the position of finding that for the first time, their ability to comment has been restricted? There's a sudden gut feeling of guilt and worry and maybe even a little silliness... after all, it's just the internet right? Right? Man... who are we trying to convince...

Good post, and I encourage you to keep writing. You sound like a great person, the kind that is a boon to any community.

Luckily, that's not my style. I actually felt quite bad about the entire thing once you filled me in -- leave it to me to use the blacklist feature once and make a royal mess of it!
