Sweet Release - IGN's Editorial

Ign.com have done an editorial on the state of games at release, and increasing trend of releasing games with game-breaking or major bugs and glitches. Demigod gets a big mention on the second page, however IGN actually give some praise to the way it's release issues were handled and mentioned the 50% of coupon as a fairly creative method for fixing the bad press.

I thought it was an interesting read, as I've encountered a few games with some major bugs from release and agree that it seems to be a bad trend. I think as the complexity of games increases - the mechanics, the A.I., the NPCs, the branching story lines, the world interactions, etc. - the chances of being able to find every bug decreases and so we're seeing this increase in release day issues.
IGN lavish the praise on Blizzard, commenting on their 'golden standards' which other developers are trying to meet. While Blizzard's games are always rock solid at release, the complexity of those titles is also fairly minimal in comparison to say Fable II. World of Warcraft was a steaming pile of shit at release - I couldn't play for nearly a full week - and that was easily their most complicated game.

Still didnt hear IGN say anything about the connectivity issues being fixed....They just said that Stardock have offered 50% coupon.

I want to see their UK and AU review of the game :)
