New Demigod: The Dragon Knight

Demigod: Dragon Knight (Light Assassin)

Appearence: An tall, well built, blonde-haired man lightly armored, for increased maneuverability, stands proudly infront of you. In one hand, he weilds a large, ornate sword. Behind the man, stands a magestic Silver Dragon. The Dragon is ancient, but still possesses an air of power surrounding it.

Summary: While on foot, the Dragon Knight is quick and agile. Running into and out of combat, he harries foes, and Cleaves through grunt waves. When needed, he can call his Dragon to him and mounting it. While mounted, his Move Speed and Attack Speed are reduced, while Armor, HP Regen, MP Regen, and Damage are increased. His weapon is a magic sword that can transform into a polearm.

Strengths: Dragon Knight is very good at chasing enemies down. With Knight Stance he can be defensive, with Dragoon Stance he can go into a berserker rage, and with Mount he can become a Rook-esque powerhouse. Very versatile.

Weaknesses: Rely's on many active skills, you will not have enough points to be a good at everything he CAN do. Jack-of-all-trades, master of none.

Abilities:

Mount/Dismount - long cast time, no mana cost - Dragon Knight calls his truted steed to him an climbs on while on the Dragon, it's bite is used for auto atacks as it moves forward on all four legs. Dragon Knight leaps of his Dragon and runs back into the fray. Has at level 1.

Knight Stance/Dragoon Stance- Instant - On Foot active Ability - Dragon Knight can toggle between two stances. In knight Stance, his health and mana regen rate is increased slightly and he weilds a large sword in one hand. In Dragoon Stance he gains passive splash damage, weilds a polearm (which has a longer range than his sword), and has his health slowly drained. Has at level 1.

Cleave - On foot, Knight Stance active ability - Medium mana cost - Uses MP to attack in an 180 degree arc with his sword.

En Garde - On foot, Knight Stance active ability - Long cooldown, akin to Oak's Shield and QoT's Bramble Shield - For a limited time, Dragon Knight's evade rate is drastically increased

Leap - On foot, Dragoon Stance active ability - High mana cost - Dragon Knight jumps high into the air, then lands dealing high AoE damage.

Charge - On foot, Dragoon Stance active ability/Mounted active ability- Meduim mana cost - Dragon Knight rushes forward, sending small enemies in his path flying and doing small damage to those in his path. While mounted, the name changes to 'Charge!,' enemies are stunned, and damage is increased. At the end of a Charge (or Charge!) Dragon Knight spins his spear (or the Dragon stomps the ground) doing additional damage in a small AoE around him (or them).

Fire Breath - Mounted Active Ability - Venom Spit w/ more initial damage and lower DoT- High Mana Cost - Line AoE effect, Deals medium initial damage and then burns targets for DoT

Fly - Mounted Active Ability -  Medium mana cost, long cooldown, has a minimum range - The Dragon uses it's wings to launch it's massive self into or out of danger, damaging and stunning enemies near the takeoff and landing zones.

Knight Training - Passive - Boosts Move and Attack Speed while on foot, and boosts the MP Regen while in Knight Stance.

Dragoon Training - Passive - Boost HP while mounted, and reduces the HP drain while in Dragoon Stance

Backstory:

Blades clash. An middle-aged man spars with a younger deciple, teaching the boy how to fight. The mentor swings a large sword, held in one hand with the ease of experience, in a backslash coming down from the boy's right. Ducking as the youth adjusts his grip on his large sword, which he weilds rather clumsily, he slices upwards as his father's blade cuts a few hairs on the top of his head. The more aged of the two leaps into a forward roll, over his son's blade and lands just behind him blade poised at his foe's back. Just as the boy turns to congradulate his father and arrow pierces the ground next to him, tip on fire, it lights the grass of the meadow they are standing in. A look of fear crosses the mentor's face, and just as quickly vanishes, he turns toward the aggressors, ten armed and mounted soldiers from the neighboring kingdom, he utters a single word, 'run.'

The boy rushes through a forest, sword sheathed accross his back, and a small pack slung over his shoulder. Thousands of thoughts run through his head: where to go? Who to warn? Is he still alive? What do I do if he's not? The boy runs into a clearing, he glances behind him and sees the soldiers pursuing him. Eying a nearby cave, he rushes toward a cliffside. As he enters the cave, soldiers just minutes behind him, he sets down his pack and draws his sword. Searching deeper into the cave, he comes to a long pasage way that opens into a grand, dark, very damp chamber. He hears voices and turns his back to the chamber and faces the narrow entry point, forcing the soldiers to fight him one at a time. Torchlight stains the hall and three shadows slowly creep towards him. One of the soldier shouts and charges at him with a spear ready. The boy sidesteps the guards thrust, and stabs him clean through the chest, killing him near instantly. Taking a deep breath, he spins counterclockwise as he pulls his sword free and prepares for another confrontation. Another soldier rounds the corner, weilding an axe in one hand and a short sword in the other. A sadistic smile on his face, the military man walks towards the scared boy. Parrying the first hack from the ax, the boy backsteps to dodge a counter swing from the short sword. As the brute stabs with the pike at the top of his ax, the boy side steps and slashes at his foe. Their blades ring as swords clash edge on edge. The larger man checks the boy with his soldier, knocking him down and making him drop his sword. Quickly rolling backwards to his feet, the boy turns and runs into the darkness of the cave as more soldiers come from behind the second.

Black surrounds him, he's breathing heavily, clutching his chest and limping slightly as he runs away. He is unsure where he is running to, but so far he has just been in this one large chamber. Unable to see, he runs into a wall. Staggered, he puts his back against it and turns to the torchlight in the distance. He closes his eyes rappidly, partially to help them adjust, partially to see if he will wake up from this nightmare. As the soldiers approach his haven and it is clear that they have seen him, the wall behind him moves.

"Who, is making, so, much, NOISE!" a booming voice fills the chamber, scaring the soldiers. Standing up fully, what the boy thought was a wall, spreads its wings and growls the most terrifying noise the boy has ever heard. The soldiers turn to flee, but a line of flame bursts forth from the darkness, burning all of them to cinders. The dragon turns to the frightened boy, his silver scales shining in the dim firelight.

"Do not be afraid" the dragon's voice is less harsh now, but it still echoes in the chamber; although, the deep tone is more soothing than intimidating this time. The boy squeezes his eyes shut and whispers, "Please God, don't let him eat me." A low chuckle emits from the grand dragon, "God? What God do you speak of? I am more of a God than anything you can imagine!" The amused dragon grins, his toothy smile looking somehow both comforting and horrifying. "Well, then, t-thank you for saving me," the boy says as he turns to walk away. I thought strikes him as he reaches the passageway back to the entrance of the cave, what if there are more outside? He turns back to the dragon, "H-Have you s-seen my sword?" The dragon take a few steps from where he stood, and looks at the boy. Staring intensely at the boy, he says "Yes... It seems you and I were destined to meet. You are the one I've been searching for, are you good a blade?" Startled by the question and the interest from the dragon, the boy stammers, "W-well, my d-dad was teaching me, so I k-know a little, but I couldn't fight th-" The dragon interrupts the boy, stating, "When I am done with you, you will be able to take on armies with but a single saber. A Dragon is nothing without a Rider. Now come, you have much to learn..."

didnt read the back story but i think the idea for the character is brilliant....

maybe thats because i play a dragoon in Final fantasy 11 online.... but .. games need more dragoons!

*groans

I have 2 problems with it.....

1. If you're gonna suggest "Dragon Knight", at least jumble it a bit so it doesn't have a DOTA namesake.

2. The coolest part of DG's hero roster is the original names and character models. There's the "The _______" series and then first-name-only's and honor titles (Queen and Lord). Something generic like Dragon Knight is too bumblegum, no mystique or allure imho. I do a lot of complaining/whining though, so take my comments in stride.

@Mortissia- My idea is that the dragon is large and cumbersome, thus slower in attack speed. Having less attack speed and more move speed seemed like it wouldn't work out that well, so i suggested the dragon move slower too.

@Nasareth- I only played maybe half a dozen games of DOTA and was unaware that Dragon Knight was a Hero in that game. I do agree that it needs a better name and I had to resist the teptation of calling him Kain.

Thank you Junkip and SecondAdvent.

i'm just going to throw this out there for argument sakes... and because Nasareth said it first...

why not call it Dragon Lord?

huh? ;)

i think it its a pretty good idea, but the name bothers me. dragon knight sounds like a powers ranger ;P

Can we call him Omniknight instead?  I think some people might get confused.

Dragon Master, if every DG has a very similar title its a bit boring, so how about one thats not got anything to do with nobility and more on their own merits?

Yes.

Oak Sans Terre.

Erebus Гро́зный.

That would be more fun.

First off.. very nice and thoroughly thought. I like the skills and the fact that the dragon is ancient (and hence slow).

Trying to be more constructive, here are my comments:

1- I think the stances should be mounted and unmounted. Branched stances would make this charachter too complicated to play with and against. (Leap makes more sense while mounting the Dragon sense it has wings, and Maybe Dragon Flare is a possible ranged monted ability)

2- We already have a musculer blonde Assasin. Also, a fully plated General. A White haired elf would give "Light" atmosfere to the charachter and would be a diverse choice.

3- Fly ability has a nice twist to it. But should be leveled and implemented carefully. (While flying, can the dragon be hit with a ranged ability. This is not teleportation!) I think a charge ability would be a nice CC (Throughing minions and swarm into air and stunning DGs for a second)

4- Anurin "Taken from the book Dragon Riders as the Dragon Rider Bond leader" would be a nice name, oh and I just remebered he is also an Elf. Dragon Rider is also nice and requires less description *_*

5- The back story is nice. But I don't know if it fits the game's lure. These are Demigods not mere humans. Although it would be quite a twist if this Dragon Rider really have taken on armies and then over-reaced to the Pantheon.

Thats all for now... again good work

How about Valheru: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midkemia#Valheru

Valheru, also called The Dragon Lords, were the first race on Midkemia, and among the most powerful in the known universe. They rode on the backs of great dragons, travelling throughout the cosmos in search of plunder. Arrogantly presuming themselves to be gods, they also created lesser races to serve as slaves.

Notes on the Backstory: My idea with him was that he started out as human and then became a demigod with the help of the dragon, thus why he is very young in the story. It was originally going to go into his training and accention to demigodhood, but I cut it short because it was getting too long.

About the name: It's the one thing I don't like about this idea, I can't come up with a good name for the Rider or the Dragon.

@Mortissa - I was referring to Kain from the Final Fantasy series, not Kain from Blood Omen and other biblical vampire stories.

Thanks for all the feedback ^_^

About the name. It's probably the most difficult part to do exactly right.

The thing is, according to your background story the dragon sort of 'teaches' the knight, taking him under his wings (literally probably :p). Also, the dragon comes across as strong, as to the knight who is just a little boy.

But in the end you want a demigod, ready to ascend into godhood. That implies power, fierceness, might. So you kinda want to give him a name that suits such a character.

I think "Dragon Rider/Knight" whatever is too basic. It's more his functionality than a name people would know him by. Batman was cool because he was named Batman, not Villain Catcher. Maybe you have to take the essence of a dragon and work from there. If you say "dragon", what do people think of? Fire, wings, a huge beast. Try to take it from there maybe, just a suggestion.

That is not an acronym, but an anagram. But I still like the idea! TBH Ongard and Angrod sound awesome.

Why not God On Dragon, which would also be GOD in acronym.  hahaha

Hey it's to the point.  Tells you exactly what you're up against. ^_^
