AI's a stupid n00b...!

So there we were, near the end of the game, me and two bots plus giants etc, beating the hell out of their citadel. Their three GDs were low on health and retreated. Then what happened? My two 'stupid n00b' bots decided to follow them... 8C >:(

 

What happened next was predictable. I was suddenly surrounded by three enemy DGs and a bunch of giants etc, and couldn't retreat quick enough. After respawn, the enemy was heading in force towards our citadel. Instead of consolidating behind towers, what did the bots do? Yep, they went right out into the middle and got slaughtered... WTF? I couldn't get out of the way and was over-run in seconds. All the time I was waiting to respawn I could see the citadel going... By the time I got back it was too late >:(

 

Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory by n00b bots.

Number of kills for their DGs were 16,11,11 - I had 18, my two bots 4 and 0.

I've only had this game a few days but if this is the best the AI can do I'm going to get irritated real quick.

The AIs don't do too good on the overall "this is what we need to do to win" level. On Dominate they don't focus on flag capturing, which is the only victory condition. Basically, the AI is scripted to just control its Demigod without much regard for the overall state of the game or objectives.

I've lost count how many times we've crushed the enemy team, and instead of pushing forward while they were respawning, all of my AIs walked back to base to shop, leaving me there alone when the enemy team respawned.

Don't expect much out of them :P

Sometimes the dice lands in your favor and the enemy team AI is worse than yours, so in those cases they aren't actually dead weight ;)

If you make a custom match with hard ai vs hard AI you will win all the time. If you do the campaign against hard AI your AI will feed the enemy AI so much it's impossible to win! Seriously, I had 40 kills, my AI 0 and the enemy about 10-15 each all against the other and they still won in the end. I think in campaign Hard mode your AI gets set to normal and you get trounced roundly each and every time!

As has been said, the AI really isn't smart enough.

However, the tougher AI levels get some big cheats going for them. The Nightmare AI begins with some 4 times the gold at start than players, I believe. (Try starting a match with starting gold set to highest, and fear the AI with some 160,000 gold of equipment.)

During really long games, this can actually become a game winner, as the AI *can* become impossible to beat at some point simply because their gear far surpasses what you can afford.

Regulus, Sedna, and UB are I think the biggest offenders here. If you give these guys the artifact shop on Nightmare, Sedna becomes unkillable even with 3-4 demigods beating on her because her regen is insane, and Regulus and UB just shred you to bits with artifacts in 2-3 seconds.

I think my favorite was an AI Rook chasing down a UB player, dealing 500 damage twice a second, then tanking several towers where UB died, then beating down the other two players who came to help. Then it walked out with fully 2/3rds of its health left.

Erebus is the worst.. god it's impossible to kill him unless you can stun him for like 10 solid seconds.
