a non-negative number fix

so, i fixed this for my friend. what i did was copy the download queue right before it extracted and deleted the temp files and rar'd it for him.

[ link removed ]

just extract that to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Impulse\Temporary (which is set as default in impulse, so change if necessary) and try running the update again from scratch. worked for us.

steps we took outlined before for reference (some may be unnecessary)

1. update to beta patch (he was able to despite problems with official one)

2. verify integrity of game so you can update to offical patch.

3. before download, copy rar'd file into location mentioned above.

4. run impulse patch

let me know if this works for anyone else

ah, it's when you try to update the game though impulse and it gives you an error about non-negative number nonsense and you cannot update demigod. doing the above got my friend past it after he tried other stuff people suggested.

ok thanks. I  will keep this in mind when I actually get the download to install...grrrr

This should not be necessary, and redistributing the game/patch files is not permitted.

So far we've found that most of the people having this issue are AVG users. Disabling AVG or setting an exception appropriately should resolve it.

Xclaim, if you're having another issue please post about it and we'll try to help.

My friend is having this problem and it has nothing to do with AVG.

He's tried removing his firewall, port forwarding, direct connecting internet to his computer(no router), bridging his modem, pretty much shutting down all security.  He still gets the non-negative number required error.

If you're getting the issue without AVG, then please contact [email protected] so we can address it.

He's done that and is waiting for help.

We did more troubleshooting and found this:

He checked prerelease versions in Impulse and downloaded the beta update without a problem.  Then unchecked prerelease and "verified installation" and when he went to downgrade back to the official release, he got the non-negative number required again.

So in summary: he's able to update the game fine to beta, but there is something wrong with that 12kb patch you brought out on Tuesday.  Doesn't seem to be on the client end of things.

so, why don't you guys release a standalone patch for the the rest of the people who can't do it manually? it just makes sense to help out the people who bought the game play immediately with such an easy work around imo.

I'm with you on that one Bum.

I encouraged my friend to get the game after I bought it because it was so fun, and he really likes it too, but was about to try and get a refund from where he bought it because of this issue.

Luckily he can do the beta, so I upgraded to the beta so we could play.

Hopefully when the beta patch goes official he wont have the same issue!
