Minion Discussion

Better AI vs. Control Scheme

This is just a topic for open discussion.

Would you rather the developers come up with better minion AI so you don't have to micro-manage them?  Or does the micromanagement of minions trump any sort of changes they could make?

How do you guys use your minions?  Are you actively controlling/commanding them, or do you let them tag along with your Demigod?

Go ahead and throw any thoughts/opinions about the topic.

Thanks!

I definetly think a better system could be implemented. I know when I have minions I revert to starcraft/warcraft type controls, but those obviously don't exist in this game. It is rather a pain to control many minions.  However, like all suggestions atm, it can wait until the connection issues are resolved!

I'd be content if I could tell how many I still have around. So I don't have to constantly try to resummon. Their health status would be just over the top, for now.

I quit giving them orders cause it seems it takes them forever to engage a target. They're just a sort of a meat-shield which sometimes gets to heal me.

I definately use my minions independently of my hero! Not doing so would make generals considerably less versatile.

E.g. helping defend a flag while your hero recovers or runs back to base (before you have tele scrolls), running to attack a nearby hero while you continue capping a flag (especially on Prison map).

However the interface could really do with an improvement, like coloring the button grey when you have max minions.

Minions shouldn't manage themselves better, they should improve the ui so you can manage them better.  They should also make minion builds viable.  Right now if you spend on idols it's at the expense of gear that will often benefit you more than the minions do.

I don't use any minions other then Oak's spirits (and even then just to keep at base to keep the high dmg bonus).

Every now and then, I'll get siege archers to chip away at towers at the start of the game.

hmm when  i go yeti build  i  get all the minions and  yetis and i also get my team mates to get some so they can folo mei end up with a huge army  foloing me  and i destroy everything in the way towwards the base then  attack the base

it is so funny seeing what they type when they see i got 6 of each and my 4 yetis  attacking them

Same as Teseer, siege archers to attack towers, other than that I rather spend my money on a potion or a scroll. My standard Oak build has no minions. I only bother with spirits when I need the extra punch.

Using minions independently is invaluable, especially against a Regulus who uses mines.  Send in one guy to detonate them, then charge.  The system could be improved, but automation is not the answer here.
