High sim speed, horrible performance

I'm trying to play Demigod on this laptop, and while my simspeed stays within the 4-8 range, the game runs at a fairly consistant 3 frames per second. I know it's not the ideal computer for gaming, but since I can play Left 4 Dead pretty passably, I thought I'd ask before chalking it up to PC deficiencies.

I tried the /nosound fix to no avail, and changing detail level/resolution makes no dicernable difference, positive or negative. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Formic

I'm not sure if this is totally accurate or not, but it's something to consider...

To me "Sim Speed" is the speed at which your cpu can process the game and calculate all the damage and movement and everything else going on and it probably doesn't reflect much on how well it can render the graphics, which is mostly performed by the gpu.

So if I had to guess I'd say you have a fairly decent cpu in your laptop, but your graphics card in there is abysmal. You can try lowering all the graphics settings, but at only 3fps right now it doesn't look too good.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the ATI Radeon X1270 an intigrated chip, not a card?

End of Teseer's quote

the difference is not important (all cards have a chip on them after all).

that chip, however, is below the minimum requirements for Demigod. Formic, you've got the same family as what's given in the requirements, so it will technically run Demigod; just not very well at all.

Just want to emphasize the above posts. Yes, sim speed refers to the processing speed of the simulation only (hence only CPU power, at least with the current state of the engine) and the Radeon X1270 simply doesn't provide enough power.

Thanks guys, I was afraid something was bottlenecking me. Lucky I've got a desktop to fall back on or I'd be forced to go demigod-less.
