Setup with firewire, 2nd Nic, or even Hamachi?

Help - I have been using multiplicity between my desktop and work laptop for a long time with no problems. My new laptop must be much more secure as even off VPN I cannot see my home network. I have setup file and printer sharing via Hamachi.

Can anyone help me setup MP to work between these two computers? FIrewire, 2nd Nic, whatever it takes! I work from my home office so getting this working is critical!
