Game says it needs updated drivers

Diablotek ATI Radeon 9200 256mb PCI Video card

Purchased this card from geeks.com so that I could play Demigod and I am still getting the same error.  When I try to load it it tell me "Hardware based instancing required.  Please ensure system has current video drivers."  I went to the ATI website and downloaded the new drivers and got them installed, but the game continues to give me the same error.  What can I do to fix this?  I am running Windows XP Pro on a Dell Optiplex 170L, and my video card is listed above, but here it is again just in case:  Diablotek ATI Radeon 9200 256mb PCI Video Card.  Gamestop (where I bought Demigod from) has a strict no refund policy so I'm kinda stuck here I really want to get this up and running.

go read the minimum requirements for Demigod; you'll see that your GPU is too old.

My GPU?  You mean the card?  The box says it needs a 128mb video card, recommended 256mb...i would think what I have is enough.

no. you didn't read the minimum requirements.

let me quote the requirements for you;

Quoting Demigod's,
  • Windows XP SP3 / Vista SP1
  • 2.4 GHz Processor
  • 512 MB Available System Memory
  • 8 GB Available Hard Drive Space
  • 128 MB 3D Video Card (ATI Radeon X1600 / Nvidia GeForce 6800 or better)
  • Sound Card
  • Broadband Internet Connection for Multiplayer
  • Stardock's Impulse Required for Updates/Digital Download
End of Demigod's's quote

Well we should note is that the 9200 is a DX8 (No shader abilities) Videocard and that the X1600 is DX9.0c (SM 3.0 abilities) which is the reason the game isn't working basically your 9200 doesn't know how to render the game. Not to mention the X1600 is 2X+ the speed of the 9200.

Best I can think of for PCI -> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131082 if your in america. This is the HD2400Pro DX10 (SM 4.0) one of the best still available for the regular PCI slot, but otherwise I would seriously consider doing an overhaul of your computer you don't need a super computer, but buying a parts that cost less than 500 would get you a system about 5x the speed of the optiplex and play demigod and most other new computer games nicely. Not to mention possibly lowering your electric bill.
