My Colors Ankh Desktop

My Colors Ankh Desktop

What a nice suprise

Thought I'd open up Impulse and see if there were any new updates for my software today and to my surprise I found a new My Colors waiting to be downloaded. Great looking WindowBlind and Icon Package. Really nice job on this one, Stardock Designs.

I got my notice yesterday and I still don't see it. I see I'm not the only one. Let's hope. >:(

You only need to load it with MyColors once

Well thats the thing Wiz....I'd rather not have to install MyColors at all since I already have WindowBlinds. But no biggy...I'll just have to do without this one again.

WG,did you look for it in Theme Manager as per mickeko's suggestion.I can't get TM to load WB's at all though so that may not be of any use to you either.

How to  use MyColors them without MyColors

  1. Go to the Public user folder. There should be a few subdirectories under the Stardock folder ("ThemeManager", "WindowBlinds", "IconPackager", etc.)
  2. In the ThemeManager folder, open the .MyColors file using Winrar or an equivalent program.
  3. Inside the archive, there should be a few directories for IconPackager, WindowBlinds and widgets, along with wallpapers, the theme .ini file & preview and the theme icon.
  4. Extract the WindowBlinds and IconPackager themes into each application public folder (as found in the Stardock folder in 1.)
  5. The Windowblinds skin and Iconpackager package should now be available in their respective applications.

You will still need to have the theme activated for the WB skin to work (Impulse should have done it for you - look for the <theme name>.bin file in the ThemeManager folder). I don't know if you can download the theme from Impulse without installing MyColors though. You can probably trick it by adding the MyColors registry info manually, but that's pushing it :sheep:

Yeah....don't use theme manager either. I just change whatever I want to change since I don't really use themes. And just me personally find it redundant to install so many programs that do pretty much the same thing or close to it. And besides that I'm always so busy creating other stuff I never really have one thing on my desktop for very long. It would just be nice to get these skins in .wba form so I can "customize" and create additional things they way I'd like to...so encrypted skins are kinda useless for me. But the skin looks great! And like I said...no biggy.

Same color scheme as our 7 year old Age of Mythology theme. Which means our WMP skin would work quite well with this. Check it out: http://www.theskinsfactory.com/skinsfactory/?page=view&portID=93&portPage=6

If you use our WMP skin in screenshots please credit us with our name and link. As a courtesy. For some of you old timers the AoM skin was done by Kig with me art directing. Kig rocked!

Couple of comments about the theme...

1. The Ankh symbol needs some work. Seriously. I mean the theme is named Ankh, you could at least create the most beautiful and accurate design of one.

2. Next/Previous Arrow buttons: arrows are too dark if its in idle state. If its in disabled then its ok.

3. The green taskbar button looks out of place. Should have carried over the blue from the start menu to tie in the windows, icons and start menu with taskbar.

4. Also the blue gems on the start button should be the same size as the ones on the start menu and window so there is consistency among the elements.

Nope. That didn't work.

Guess I'll wait for the unencrypted version, then I can enjoy it.

There's going to be an unencrypted version?

That's what the big guy said. Not sure how or who gets it. But it's probably an after thought now. It was 50 years ago.....;)

From what I understand, that's how the big guy is with his products, likes to age them like fine wine...that and He who controls the Spice, controls the universe! (my fav quote from Dune).  The big guy is heavy on business sense.

Not everything works with Windows 7 RC (Build 7100) 64-bit.  Rather disappointing actually.  The Taskbar and Start Button never get changed, and the System Tray looks funky (scrolled down, with the upper half of the icons showing).  Maybe an update will fix these issues.  Sure hope so, as this has a great look & feel.
