Able to play multiplayer but not singleplayer skirmish

Somehow I'm able to play multiplayer (just finished a game) and single player tournament.  However, when I try to play single player skirmish, it just gets stuck on "Connecting to Lobby" and stays there.  There isn't even a way to get out of the screen so I have to alt+f4.

 

Any help, suggestions?

(Note that I've been having this problem both before and after I forwarded the ports as per monk's guide.  I have never managed to play skirmish yet)

How long did you give it to connect before you f4'd it?

Keep in mind, if the game was truly frozen, alt+f4 would have about as much effect as throwing a sponge into the ocean. Typically you would have to go as far as ctrl+alt+del and end the process in the task manager manually.

Try this: Start connecting to Skirmish, and go eat lunch. Come back, and see if it's still there. Typically it takes me a good 5 minutes (counting in my head) to connect to a Pantheon/Skirmish game finally.

What's there to connect to?  This is just single player so I can test the demigod's skills and items.

 

I waited about 5-10 minutes for that "connecting to lobby" to go away but it never did.  Also, the screen never froze, but there's no way to cancel it so you have to alt+f4.

 

Again, it's strange that I can play multiplayer fine but single player gets stuck on a connecting to lobby screen...

I didn't know single player actually says "connecting to lobby..." ...Well, I've never actually touched sp in this game, so I guess I'm not much help here. :S

I have the same problem.

 

I also left it for 5 minutes before forcefully ending the process. While the game was still doing 'something' (as it was not "Not Responding"), what ever it was doing did not want to be stopped.

Is there any "[no text]" on the load screen where it hangs?

There's not really al load screen at all... it's just some huge text saying Connecting to Lobby with that animated loading image underneath

so i ran in windowed mode and enabled logging (because i'm starting to mod DG), went into Skirmish and got the same-old-same-old Connecting to Lobby... screen.

at this point, i had an aha-moment and checked the log. to my surprise, i found this at the very end of the log;

download "FIX: Connecting to Lobby... forever and ever" from my GoogleCode page, read the instructions and try it out!

fix doesn't work; all it's good for is getting to the lobby.

 

[EDIT: again]

aparantly; we're all idiots, and never thought to delete our game.prefs files.

it appears that the retail Demigod gets confused and has an aneurysm if you feed it an old prefs file. renaming the file to game.prefsold fixed my Connecting to Lobby... issues.
