The Artificer

Hello everybody, and thanks for dropping in for dropping in for The Demigod Idea part 5.  Just in case you’re wondering, if there are creatures/demigods/gods/people you want them demigodified, just leave comment.  Also, someone in part 4 said that Stardock has already planned their 4 new demigods.  If anyone can give me the link to this I’d really appreciate it.  Thank you, and enjoy!

The Artificer (General, Force of Light)

Amongst all the creations by the Ancients, the goblins were the only race with an unmatched affinity with metal and steel.  Their abilities to forge arms and armor and shape metal to any form they wish was second to none.  Legend has it that the goblins were born from pure metal ore than sexual reproduction, thus explaining their mastery over it (though some would say they are no match to the dwarves of Highnight Mountain). 

Unlike their dwarf counterpart, whom they prefer the high and vast mountain ridges, the goblins enjoy the underground depths of endless caverns and limitless channels.  Deep within the tunnels of Eternal Deep, where darkness is forever and everlasting is where the foundation of the goblin empire rests.  

Lasterve Firiegev is the capitol, and the only, city where the goblins unite in their joy for smith and metalworks.  Massive metallic pillars that serve both as furnace and support for the cavern roofs dots the underground landscape.  Hovels built upon hovels serve as the goblins home, stacking high to which some are almost as high as the furnace pillars.  The only light that pierces the darkness in these dark caverns are the unceasing fire from the countless forges, both big and small, and small lanterns scattered throughout the ground. 

While goblins are loathe to leave their home, they are not above welcoming outsiders into theirs, especially if they bring wares and needed supplies to trade.  Lasterve is home not only to the goblins but also a mass of traders, suppliers and arms-dealer, all whom depend greatly on the forges of the goblins.  History has produced some of the greatest weapon-makers and armor-casters ever known onto the land, most of whom are goblins, but arguably the greatest of them all was Snazzle Ze Wizzig. 

Snazzle grew up like any normal goblin should; caring of the assigned smith, mining ores and maintaining the bare necessities of life.  When he reached of age, Snazzle jumped onto (not into) the nearest furnace with the eagerness of a goblin.  As the years flew by he soon grew to be a well-respected member of the Metalwork Committee. 

What made Snazzle Ze Wizzig different from other goblins, however, was that he was bored.  He was bored of making the same type of weapon over and over, bored of forging the same armor over and over.  Occasionally a new type of weapon or armor would be introduced to the community of goblins, but even they were just pale extension of the same two things; weapon and armor.  Snazzle yearned for something more than just weapon-smithing and armor-casting. 

One day, as Snazzle returned to his hovel from a day’s blacksmithing, he found that his meal was not made, his hovel was a mess, and he was late for a late afternoon tea…again.  Feeling sick that he has to worry about such trivial matter of his life, it was at this moment an inspiration struck him like a hammer from the gods.  With fire burning in his heart and with upmost haste he rushed towards the nearest forge.  After a sleepless night a tired but grinning Snazzle walked out the forgehouse with a unique sight following behind him; a mechanical beast. 

It wasn’t the best of work (as Snazzle only had time to build the bare essentials).  It had all 4 limbs like any bipedal animal, a body and a glowing lightbulb that served as a head.  Even so, the bipedal machine obediently followed Snazzle home.  Within a day the news had spread throught the city like wild-fire, of Snazzles machine servant which made his bed, prepared his food, and always brought him an afternoon tea. 

Such an amazing discovery was a truly unique breakthrough as no goblin has ever thought about casting a crude parody of forging live metal in the image of the living.  Soon every goblin was begging, dying to learn how to craft a machine beast themselves.  With such a great invention that brought many prospect to the goblins, the masses and the Lords of the Forge believed he should be anointed the newest addition to the Lords of the Forge, much to Bizzle’s content. 

Bizzle La Gazz is the closest thing as a nemesis to Snazzle.  Bizzle was always jealous of Snazzle’s achievements and exploits, feeling that his own were always overshadowed by Snazzle’s latest creation.  With the threat of his hated foe attaining a status he long coveted, he sought to bring the great Snazzle to the ground, no matter what it took.    

Posing to be a friendly advisor he “accidently” let slip to Snazzle that the Lords are considering on inducting him into their ranks, and that if he could repair the monolithic furnace Heart of Fire then his future would be cemented.  The Heart of Fire was the greatest pillar furnace of the city, centered right at its heart.  Its furnace alone provides all the fire and power the city could ever need and want.  Bizzle further told Snazzle that the Heart of Fire was broken a few days ago, and that the Lords were hiding this from the general public in fear of humiliation and ridicule, because none of them could repair it.    Before Bizzle could say any more, Snazzle ran into his hovel to grab his gears and ran right for the Heart of Fire.  In his excitement Snazzle did not see Bizzle smile to himself. 

Finally reaching the base of the Heart of Fire, the out-of-breath Snazzle brought out his tools, a wrench in one hand and a hammer in the other.  Before he could so much as raise an arm an explosion was heard inside the great furnace, followed by a series of smaller blast.  Right before his eyes he saw the great furnace explodes from with, destroying its massive and intricate structures of pipes and gears, piston and wheels.  Even when a group of emergency goblin repairmen came to save the furnace, when an armed escort came to subdue him, all Snazzle could do was stare at the Heart of Fire, it’s mighty flame now a flicker. 

The Lords of the Forge were appalled what had happened and had come to the conclusion that Snazzle was responsible for it, as he was the only goblin on the scene.  Snazzle did his best to pronounce his innocence, stating that he would never bring any harm to his beloved home. 

The Lords and were inclined to believe him, but the damage to the Heart of Fire was great, as the Energy Core that lay within it was completely obliterated.  Without it, the city was condemned to a slow demise.  The public demanded that the perpetrator of this catastrophic event be punished.  With a heavy heart the Lords of the Furnace declared their judgment. 

Snazzle Ze Wizzig would be banished from Lasterve for the rest of his life.  If he wishes to return to his birthplace he must find the goblins a source of power suitable enough to replace the Energy Core.  Accepting this punishment without complaint or protest, Snazzle marched into the dark caverns leading away from Lasterve Firiegev with his cohort of mechanical beasts, swearing to save his home or die in the attempt.

Originally the Artificer was going to be another human, but when my friend was fawning over the death of Dobby I suddenly had the inspiration of making the Artificer as a goblin instead.  I can completely see a goblin in the Demigod universe, can’t you?  Anyway here are some of his abilities:

[Range] – Melee
[Appearance] – A rather short, stumpy goblin in very dirty overalls.  He’s roughly half the size of Regulus, maybe higher.  He carries in each hand a wrench and a hammer.  He also carries a bagpack overstuffed with spare parts, gears and whatnots that he needs to carry. 
[Mottos]  The chance for victory is guaranteed. 
            Into the fires of battle I gooooooooo…
            Let me tweak that up a bit!

[Instant] Changing Gears – Being very flexible (for a goblin) he can switch from using his wrench to firing scraps of metal at his foes with an oversized gun.  When in wrench mode increase attack speed and slight decrease mana regeneration.  In gun mode decrease attack speed and slight increase mana regeneration.  2 sec cooldown. 
[3.0] Fortify - Reinforces a building with metal plates, allowing the building to sustain more damage.  Target friendly building regains +1000/+1750/+2500etc health.  A building can be given an additional 1000/1500/2000etc health.  25 sec cooldown. 
[3.0] Barricade – Erects a wall of junk with spikes that prevents enemies from getting through.  Cover a passage with a spiked barricade that has X health.  Enemies cannot walk past the barricade without destroying it.  Every the barricade is dealt damage its attacker is dealt X damage.  The Artificer can maintain X barricades at a time.  14 sec cooldown. 
[3.0] Power Generator – Not as good as the one back home, but good enough!  Deploy a generator with X health.  Allies within X radius gains X% damage and X% armor bonus.  Towers can also chain attack from this power generator.  The Artificer can maintain X generators at a time. 
[Instant] Haggle – Born in a society where haggling is a requirement to an easy living, the Artificer gets a discount of 5%/10%/15% on all items (not artifact items though). 
[1.5] Guard Dogs – Summon 1/2/3 robot dogs to help you fight.  Can maintain 2/4/6 dogs at a time.  (Note: These dogs are weaker than your average minions). 
[2.5] Cannon – Constructs a mobiles siege cannon.  While it’s slow-rate of fire is annoying, its damage makes up for the lack of it.  When maxed lvl you can build an immobile cannon that is akin to a longER ranged trebuchet. 
[2.5] Blundershot – Blasts an enemy with a huge ball of metal shards.  Deals target enemy X damage in a small radius and X damage in a huge radius (kinda like that ability The Rook has, only ranged). 
[Instant] Master Smith – Maintain an extra dog, bonus life and damage.  Cannon gains extra damage and range. 
And that stat-bonus thing of course

You can see here that the Artificer is sort of like that the Engineer in Team Fortress 2, he builds stuff that helps his team, even if he’s not the toughest fighter around.  Then again, when you have robot dogs and a huge high-caliber cannon behind you, you don’t need to be big to be intimidating.

suggestion, "why would i ever take less mana regen and lose range, simply for faster attack speed?" swap the effects, gun mode for fighting, and wrench mode for working. swap power generator or blundershot for the ability to blow up minions for damage, and/or a second, 1 at a time recharge starts on minion death, minion.

alternite idea

Single super minion (minion with impressive hp size and stats) with varius upgrades to it as skills. instead of a cannon, a ability to switch the minion into a seige mode... could even take the ability 1 step further, making him the goblin in a steampunk suit.

I.E. two ovius builds, "Iron Goblin" where you focus on active skills used from inside the suit, (guns, hot steam flamer, melee) or "Goblin with the Remote" focused on passives that make the suit itself (when hes not inside) a force to be reckoned with, adding independent weapons, effects on hit, ect.

Loved your comment. 

The reason I want the effects is simply for the sake of balance, or what little balance I planned.  Torch Bearer and Queen of Thorns have such affects (though not a change in range).  And gun mode is for fighting and wrench mode is for working.  Fortify, Barricade and Power Generator are skills active when he's in wrench mode.  As for blowing up his own minions, I'm not sure whether or not Snazzle is that cruel to do that.  They are there to make his afternoon tea. 

I did consider a single super minion.  That can be an alternative to the robot dogs I had.  When I wrote Snazzle he was originally suppose to be on a platform with massive legs and 2 robot arms bristling with different and bizzare weapons and tools that he needed.  Completely steam punk. 

In the end I decided against that because the current Demigods don't have a shorty in the battle.  Wanted to try something different. 

All in all, I appreciate your comment very much.  You provided a great alternative to the Artificer.

I think Demigod needs a water demigod (Ice Torchbearer doesn't count). I'm thinking of the Naga from WarCraft 3: The Frozen Throne. It could be a fish-lizard thing that slithers around. Lays eggs that when enemies crawl over, they get infected with a parasite that drains mana and/or health and gives it to you. I'm not good at thinking of things like this, so that's all I got.

That is a great suggestion.  Hadn't thought about a water snake-like demigod yet.  Maybe I"ll add him to the Force of Darkness.

i really like this post bravoleader. He would seem pretty fun to play, because he can for a deadly reckless offense or a game-changing defense. But i do agree with the wrench thing, like all of his offense is on his gun, and building is with his wrench. His wrench should give the mana regen, and his gun extra attack and damage.
