ships appear as little green icons

Is there a way to make my ships appear as 3D units on the campaign map? They appear as little green icons on my PC, and in the screenshots for the game they always show ships as full 3D units. I've looked through the options and the manual, but I can't find any reference to it.

Adjust the tactical zoom slider in the options. It controls the distance that ships switch between models and icons (for easy overview or better performance).
