Broken Icons

This is bugging the crap out of me. Ever since I played around with this program on Windows 7 64 bit (a mistake in hindsight) this program has hijacked my icons and I cannot get rid of this. I've tried switching themes, restoring default, but these icons always stay the same. Its ruined my desktop icons and My Computer icons too.

i don't think IconPackager works well on win7 yet. since you posted in the MyColors forum, i'm assuming you are running MC on win7. i don't think MC is built for win7 yet, either.

Yes, you made a mistake since Windows 7 is not supported.

 Here is a fix for Vista, I don't know if it will help for Windows7 but it may be worth checking out.

From SD support:

Please access your System Registry (XP - Start-> Run, Vista - WinKey +R) and in the run box type regedit. Then go to the following Key;

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shellex\IconHandler

On the right side of the screen, if it has a value of {611AD258-4138-4348-A534-9856FA6BA398} you need to rename that registry key from 'IconHandler' to something else, IconHandlerX works.
Then reboot your PC and the Icons should come back.

Boot into safe mode and run a command prompt from admin. login ...

Then type in sfc /scannow and let it check to see what files are changed. If they have been changed it will attempt to repair them. Sometimes and most usually all the time a restart is needed to complete the clean up.

Good luck

I had a similar problem with windows XP, and I solved it by using the freeware program enditall (just google it).  I used the program to stop everything nonessential before I applied the theme and the iconmanager no longer had any issues.  I don't know if there is a version of enditall for windows 7 yet, but if you can find it, or 1 like it, it may help.
