Demigod VS Dota

Demigod VS Dota

I've been playing the game for several days and I've found that this game is very similar to DOTA (a Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne map that was done by some very talented people, if you haven't tried it, you should to see how similar it really is:  http://www.dota-allstars.com/).  However, DOTA currently has more to offer than this game.  Not to say this game couldn't easily out distance that map but there are some things that would need to change before that happens:

1. Your character selection is very small.  For this type of game, it really should be much larger or at least twice it's size so that it doesn't feel like it's bland after playing it for several days.  It almost reminds me of the original Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter which is not a good thing since this is supposed to be something much better.

2. Your maps are nice but there is no map editor or any way I've seen to add additional maps.  This can be very beneficial as players will spend the time to create nice maps and you guys don’t have to develop much (if anything after that as far as maps are concerned) because the map will poor in from the players.

3. The money system can be an issue since the players are focused to kill other demigods.  Any demigod who lacks abilities (or just the players themselves) to kill other players will easily fall behind.  Because of this, the mobs (or creeps, which ever you prefer) should give a little more money and some should be taken off of killing a demigod reward to balance it out.

4. Any units your characters create should be given a little more focused control than just 3 buttons on the left side.  This almost makes the units obsolete and a waste of time without the demigod (which is fine in some cases but shouldn’t be the only type of strategy a player can use especially if this is supposed to resemble a strategy game.)

5. The updates you push through Impulse do not have any change logs.  This gives players something to expect and to look for when they are playing so they can tell you when the changes that were made helped or hindered the game.

I’m not sure if these will be given notice but players will give ideas and try to help make the game better.  Take heed of what they say because these may help the game go further than where it is now.

More kindling for the fire...

In short: Demigod isn't DotA. DotA is based on Warcraft III: an already outdated game with horrible graphics.

Demigod is better, Demigod has more maps, Demigod is more thoroughly developed and will continue to be improved!

Demigod is a standalone game with its own unique heroes and everything. Demigod will rule the world!!! *cough*

I don't do sarcasm. I mean it.

Doesn't matter which came first. Demigod is a standalone game. A mod for a completely different game can't beat it.

There's nothing to discuss, nothing to compare. Especially since Demigod is quite new and will only get better with time.

ohh ... then well . dota was a mod based on wc3 ... demigod which had its basics and inspiration coming from dota ... so well but yeah , graphics is everything in games .... we all know that .

. They feel too generic and don't really do that many stuff. A game as big as this should have a huge diversity of items. The artifact shop idea combined with the tower is great but the rewards are mediocre.

are you kidding me having certain items that support your demigod makes the difference between you running away or the emeny running away, i can't stress enough how much the nimoth chest armor has saved my life from reg's damn snipe :D

they originally said they were inspired by a lot aos games which most known iteration is dota, plus Battlefield 2 and Footmen Frenzy and a lot other fun maps. So where is the Demigod vs Footmen Frenzy thread? Maybe I should make it ...

yes its pretty obvious theyve been inspired by that aswell , and you make that thread instead of answering for the sake of answering

Quoting ZehDon, reply 18A simillar discussion is taking place here.

Side note: I find it interesting when DotA players complain about a small amount of content considering DotA has exactly one Map.

wow are we up on bashing on dota again .. so many people who doesnt grip it all , ill just quote you and say that that 1 map , gives more varied gameplay then all 8 maps in demigod , so plz , dont shoot yourself in the foot.

Just now checked back in this thread, and I must say, you're a tool.

And why do you go around posting in every thread here (in awful, broken english) ranting?

I think you're a good example on why we don't want to attract Dota players to Demigod.

You clearly know english though; you're just being lazy.  I digress.

Stating that the one map in dota is better than all the maps in Demigod (saying "don't shoot yourself in the foot" no less) just makes you look obsessed with dota.  I've played dota and it's just a basic three lane map with a few odd paths you can meander through and kill random creeps in.  It provides nothing cool or strategic over any of Demigods maps.

That's all that needed to be said in my post, so I'll leave it at that.

One thing that demigod has over dota. And probably the most deciding element for quite a few people.

Community.

Yeh...those that have played dota will know what I mean.

I agree with points 2 and 4, but points 1 and 3 are just plain stupid.  The money system, the thing I was expecting to be most broken, is really not at all.  I have been the game for a week and a half and I can tell you that EVERY demigod has the capability to kill another demigod, always, and the ones who aren't as good at it can always make up for it in some other way.  Torchbearer is a demigod that is used a lot to farm creeps and level, and depending on the spec is not ideal for a 1on1 situation.  As TB I am still raking in the dough because of the creep farming, the occasional double team kill, and any time a rook comes anywhere near me I eat some stone soup.

The character selection being initially small shouldn't be a complaint yet either.  I don't know about you but I intend to try to master every character and have only really learned what to do with three, after reading many guides and experimenting, and I still wouldn't call my self top quality with anyone.  If you get bored of one, just switch.  If you get bored of all the ones you know, then learn a new one.  If you get bored after learning and playing all 8, you are in the wrong game, or spent way too much time playing.
