Demigod won't update

Whenever I start the game, after getting past the intro movie, the game tells me I need to update in order to play online. If I click "Update", demigod vaporises and Impulse just sits there doing nothing.

I can click "Cancel" and play offline, but that doesn't really help with the whole multiplayer thing really.

There's no option in Impulse to update the game, although I did find the option to update while in-game on the Impulse Overlay, but again, nothing.

Completely legitimate version, bought via Impulse, running on Vista Ultimate 64bit.

At least it's actually getting past the intro movie now anyway. Before, it just hang if I clicked through the movie or watched it to the end.

If they game doesn't update then there are only two possibilities:

1) Firewall is blocking connectivity, whether it's Vista's firewall or an antivirus firewall,  that's the case.

2) You're lying about the "legitimate version" and it's a pirated version, in which case will never update and will never play online.

I'm to believe the latter, due if this really was an issue on a game purchased through Impulse, then the customer support would be able to help and fix it without the fuss of going through 3rd party opinions on a forum.

No, you believe the latter because cynical forumites like to assume the worst of people.

Eeshk, this mentality never ceases to amaze me.

I'll check out the Windows firewall settings, but I doubt that's it, as I don't even have an "Update" tab in Impulse.

Edit: Nope, not Windows Firewall. Both Impulse and Demigod are on the exceptions list.

That's why you buy the game and don't pirate it.

For that 0.0001% chance you're speaking the truth, try re-installing it.

Well, it might be a DEP error, which is Data Execution Prevention.  Had that pop up on quite a few games of mine (Rise of Legends is the recent one) because of Vista.  You'd have to go into controll panel, System and Maintance, System, Advanced System Settings (Need Admin permissions after this point), Advanced Tab, click Performance, and then go to the Data Execution Prevention tab.  In there, you'll want to Add in a new exception, which will be the .exe for Demigod.   There you go, those might help if it's a Windows Vista error.

Other then that, might I suggest the very simplistic "Restart Windows (your PC), restart Impulse, then restart Demigod."

I'll give it a shot tomorrow when I start the PC again. I may play with adding an exception to DEP, but I'm not a fan of tinkering with it; disabling DEP can cause more problems than it solves, and for one game, well, I'm not risking reinstalling yet again just for the sakes of that one game.

I've submitted a ticket to support too, even though their first recommendation is to use the forums.

Just wish this had a feature like the Bioware forums where people can tell from your icon that you're a legitimate game owner :|

Guys, please don't jump to accuse people of pirating. It doesn't help anyone.

Mungul, if you downloaded the game more recently than Thursday morning it should already be the latest version (server issues seem to sometimes result in erroneous update notices, which we'll need to look into). If you downloaded or updated the game earlier than that, then Demigod should be listed on the My Games tab--just pick it and hit Update. If it's not appearing there or there's some other issue, please give detail so we can get it figured out for you.

Here's a picture of my Impulse Games list:

And here's one of the message I get after launching:

http://mungrul.shackspace.com/pics/demiupdate.jpg

Like I said, there's no option to update in Impulse (not by right-clicking either), and if I click Update when prompted by Demigod, the app vapourises and nothing happens. If I use the Overlay update option:

...Demigod minimises, brings Impulse to the front, and again, nothing happens.

I have the exact same problem. I was playing online yesterday fine and now it asks me to update the game.

The game was downloaded after Thursday.

To the op, I always would go through forums before bothering with supports. That doesn't warrant a good enough reason to acuse anyone of any wrong doings.

EDIT: It's working now all in a sudden.

a few things:

Reinstall the most current Impulse client from here: Impulse Client - Full

Then, in Impulse, click on the orb in the upper left, then preferences, then Reset Data.

Well, I did that. Now I'm back to not being able to get past the intro movie, and the game still won't update :|

Edit: I just re-verified, and while I can now get past the intro movie now, I still can't update.

I'm having the same issue.  I was playing the game earlier today online and it worked reasonably well besides the game hanging for 20 seconds whenever i looked at the custom game list, but now whenever I hit the "Internet Game" button it hangs for about 30 seconds and then announces that i need to update the game to play online.

If i click update the game hangs for another 30 seconds, and then closes and shows me impulse.  So then I right click demigod in impulse and there's no update option, then if i click the lightning button in the top left corner of impulse and select "Check for updates..." it shows the little spinning loading icon and then after a couple seconds stops and doesn't say anything.  This is on Windows Vista Home 64 bit.  I tried reopening impulse a couple times and reopening the game a couple times, haven't rebooted yet.

1.00 is the same version I have....works fine. Well fine as in I can play when the servers decide to find a match :P

To update, I finally fixed this by uninstalling and re-downloading the game. Not as painful as I thought it would be as Stardock's servers are very quick.

Thank you! I was trying to find out how to edit preferences in Impulse to see beta/prerelease updates etc...
