Wow! This game is REALLY fun.

I'm a long time DOTA player (played since version 1). And I'm a huge Stardock fan...so I just had to buy this game.

I have to admit, I was a little worried after reading about some of the problems that people have been having. But I just can't resist, so I purchased it anyways. I had no problems installing or registering. I got into the game and did a Skirtmish against hards. It was a difficult game at first, but I pulled it together with a win. I played the sniper guy, Regulus.

So I logged on to play multiplayer and, to my great suprize, I got into a game within 3 minutes. It was rough going at first. The enemy team was dominating us. They had one really good player that was 6 and 0 at the half point. And our Rook was 0 and 7 or so. But eventually I discovered some great tactics to use with Regulus. His sniper shot has no maximum range, so as long as you can see the enemy...you can hit him. So I ran as far away from them as I could and waited till our Rook engaged one of them from across the map. Once the enemy got to about half I'd snipe him for the uber damage and the kill.

I felt bad about using our Rook as bait so I tried some tactings involving tons of mines. Then I'd run in to an enemy hero and he'd beat me up so I run away though my mines and he'd kill himself on them while chasing me. Great fun.

Unfortunetly, even though I was doing well...my team was not. So I invested about 12k in our Citadel and eventually that turned things around for us. And we won. The only thing it...I didn't see how we won. I was at our base and all of the sudden we won. I really wanted to watch a replay of the game but that doesn't seem to be a current feature. I've heard they'll add it later...and I trust that they will. Both GPG and Stardock are solid companies.

I don't normally buy games at full price, but I have no regrets about this one. Fun game...go buy it.

I wouldn't say it's overpriced. It has very high production values. I do wish there were more Demigods but they've already stated that at least 2 more will be added for free. If you're a big fan of single player campaigns then you will be disappointed because there isn't one. I, for one, never play the single player campaign....I'm all about the skirmishes and multiplayer.

Overpriced? Meh... maybe not to much mix really in the game, I hope they release updates with possible units and items... without charging a silly expansion fee.

Im glad u had a good MPlayer experience... I have yet to have a fun solid game... usually whole opponent team drops or 1 drops or one on each drops leaving 1v1 with 1 bot on each side... And usually I dominate atm, at least the games Ive played... so its been very little fun atm.

I'm glad you like it as a dota fan.  It seems split 50/50 if a dota person will like demigod.  Regulus does have a maximum range but it's so big you usually don't notice it until you play the bigger maps.

I'm also a big dota player and I love this game as well.

By the way: Regulus's sniper shot does have a maximum range, but it's quite far.  You definitely won't be able to shoot from one side of the map to another, even in the smaller maps, but if you're in the middle, you can hit most of a smaller map.  Choose the ability and scroll the map around and you'll eventually spot the edge radius.

Yeah... I really think they sort of dropped the ball on not providing a Tutoral. Not everyone likes to jump into the deep end of the pool when first playing a game (That's how I like it, but I know that's not for everyone).  It did not need to be a huge campaign, just a simple multi-step process that shows you everything you need to know to succeed at a normal game.

Some low hanging fruit they should have picked:

  • Pause Key in single player games (or multiplayer with all AI).
    • While paused should be able to look at Demigods skill trees.
    • While paused should be able to browse/read all gear in the shops.
  • When Dead, should be able to look at your Demigods skill tree.
  • Web site should show all Demigods skill trees, powers, and all gear choices.
    • This would help people learn the game when not playing and better prep them for when they do play.

That said, I love this game!  Can't wait for all the connectivity issues to be worked out so we all can have fun playing each other :-)

PS: Game imo is totally worth it.

Jaradakar you do make good points. I would agree with your post. These things would have been nice for singleplayer, not for multiplayer. As I said before...there are definetly some things missing. But Stardock and GPG are known for their support. I'm sure we'll see a lot more features in the future. However, I still feel what they have included in the retail copy is well worth the price.
