how to exlclude windows explorer items from getting skinned?

This application is a dll running in a windows explorer.  After I added the code for skinning, it does skin the dialogs of this application, however it also skins the bottom taskbar, tray icons, etc from windows explorer.  This application gets instantiated by right clicking any file on windows explorer and selecting our application context menu item. On selection, it brings up the dialog to do configuration.  This dialog comes up with the skin and also other dialogs that are part of the main dialog. I have tried creating and running the dialog as a separate thread, however it does not work. I have also tried exclusion methods on parent windows from the API, but still it does not work.  Is there a way to exclude it from skinning windows explorer items and just skin the application dialogs?
