Mouse Scroll Wheel No Longer Zooms the Planet View

I got Sins of a Solar Empire shortly after it first came out, and very much enjoyed playing it. Other things in my life came up and I put it aside for several months. I recently went back to it and discovered an issue that was not there before. Previously, the mouse scroll wheel allowed me to zoom in and out of the planet/universe view. That feature no longer functions. I can still zoom using the keyboard, but the scroll wheel is a lot more convenient. I do not have this problem in any other games or applications. I have tried reinstalling SOSA to no effect. I am wondering what I could have done over the last few months that would have disabled this feature. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions.

I should mention that SOSA is installed on my home computer that is not connected to the internet. (This has avoided a lot of spyware, virus, and malware problems.) I connect to the internet via my work computer where I am now.

Thanks for your help.

OK. I solved the problem - for my system anyway. And after receiving a tip from someone I cannot identify. Since I last played SOSE, I installed a little application that makes any window active as soon as I move the mouse cursor over it. I do not have to click on it to make it active. The feature is especially convenient in Windows Explorer. However, it prevented this view zooming capability in SOSE. As soon as I uninstalled the application, the SOSE problem went away. The application was from IBM, but I have a feeling that any speciual mouse software may cause this problem. Look for such software and uninstall it.
