Some worries and thoughts about DemiGod multiplayer

Until now we have played Pantheon and Custom Multiplayer settings.

The Custom multiplayer option and balance is tested by the Beta testers, Pantheon is not. Pantheon is basicly not tested because it is very difficult to get into a game with another human.

This worries me, how can we know if it will work properly at day 0 if it not tested?

The same applies to the other multiplayer scenario's:

Ranks? ladders? they are not tested in this beta. How can SD/GPG ensure it will work at 'day0'?
In Supreme Commander Beta we had serveral months in which the rankings were tested etc, i have missed this during this beta.
Currently we do not even know if rankings will be used in team automatching (or if it will be included at all)

Some suggestions:

Create several ladders:
- for experienced players who want to put a lot of effort into getting better
- for casual players who want to play a game online but do not want to put a lot of effort or time into getting better. They do not want to get into a team game and get slaughtered and spammed with comments about their lacking of skill because they are the only member of a team with less experience
- 1 vs 1 ladder
- 2 vs 2 ladder etc....

I finally got to play a Pantheon Game last night with a live person on my side and at least one living person on the other.

The improvements to the connection code seem to have improved the connections to real people on the pantheon.  It was also one of the most fun games I've played in a while.  Granted, my team won but, also, previously the game would pause for several seconds in both pantheon and custom games.  Last night went very smoothly.  If you want to test the Pantheon code, play Pantheon games.

Honestly, Ranks and Ladders are probably already fairly tuned.  You, yourself, have already mentioned that the GPG has spent months working out a ranking system and ladders while working on the Supreme Commander Beta.  They probably will use a similar ranking system for Demigod.  As it's proven tech, it's probably on tap for limited testing probably starting next week, just to work out any possible kinks.

Personally, I'm glad to see that they are trying to iron out the connection code first.

I second the idea for different types of ladders, it would be great if they seperated random teams and arranged teams to avoid pubstomping as well as removing bots.  Regardless of how well you program bots, they will not be as good as players, especially the longer the game is out for.

I am not sure you are aware of this, however; as an interesting twist, Stardock is pushing to get the bots ranked.  This means that unless the AI is capable of beating people, more likely they'll only be used to provide filler for lower ranked games or in multiples against higher ranked Demigods as part of Handicap matches, 5v2 or 4v1.

Being this a almost completly multiplayer game (yes, i know about the single player tournament), having great functionality is a must.

Some good and necessary things were posted above, but being able to search for a random match as a team is really a absolutly necessary functionality. Shouldn't this things being tested right now too?

I think they're already going to have different ladders, and tourney ladders.

The connection code should be ok first of all. Ofcourse.

The multiplayer ranking etc is completely different coded from Supcom, i don't think much code will be shared between supcom and DM. So a lot o testing is needed
