I've hit the update button on several occasions, but the only update available to me is v1.05. Am I missing something?
You need to install Impulse from http://www.impulsedriven.com and register your serial number. Then Sins will show up under "My Games" and it will list an available update to 1.14. 
Just click the Sins icon, then click Update in the lower right.
and also remove any custom maps if you do not want a crash ie
you have to remove ALL galaxy files older than 20 feb 2009 in
(C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy(32 bit) or
C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy(64 bit)) AND
C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy (xp) or
C:\users\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy).
an alternative is to do a windows search of the hard drives for all galaxy files (ie *.galaxy) then click on more advanced options and put a tick in search hidden files & folders BEFORE clicking on search

Ya but i wouldnt update to that version. I want version 1.05 so badly! I miss all the mods.
So if i delete impulse can I get v1.05 back?
to get to 1.05 you need to install sins from a dvd then download and install the Sins_Bonuspack_105_setup.exe which is the 1.05 update that can be found on the web

So if I want to use mods, I can't update to 1.14? Is that because no mods yet are out for the latest version yet?
