Can't start a Twilight game

I installed TA from Stardock and it didn't create a shortcut.  I found the launcher and started the game.  I can configure the players, etc, but when it gets to the "loading game" part, it crashes.  I used the uninstall button at Stardock and then installed again.  Same result.  Here is the error log:

Try to have the game run at the same resolution as what you're monitor is set at.  I see the game is on 1024x768 but your monitor is on 1280x800.  I have a recollection about some issue with resolution conflicts.  Worth a try at least.

Also, since it's failing while loading the races you might have a bad race file; try clearing out all the custom race files from My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor.

Try going to Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor and open the Prefs.ini file in Notepad.

Change DisplayWidth to 1280 and DisplayHeight to 800, save the file, and then try again. You might also try changing your screen resolution to match 1024 X 768, just as a test.

If that doesn't work, set Fullscreen=0

I tried your suggestion about editing the prefs ini file.  Setting it to the higher res that I'm using on my computer resulted in a blank screen lockup that I had to c-a-d out of.  Setting full screen to 0 got me back to the original problem.

In regard to the suggestion about clearing out the custom race files, there weren't any. 

I'm thinking that the game didn't install correctly, even with three attempts.  It didn't create a shortcut and it isn't listed in my Stardock Games folder on my computer.  To boot the game, I have to find the TALaunch.exe file and click that.  Also, there are all those regkey errors listed at the top of my error log.  Is it normal to have those?  I'd like to try reinstalling, but I've already done that a couple of times.  Does the uninstall button at Stardock get rid of everything it needs to in order to get a good reinstall?

At least you're getting further into the game then I am.

I just picked up the Ultimate Edition on Tuesday and tried installing it yesterday - figured I would have something to do to keep me occupied while I'm home sick from work...

I just get a black loading/start up screen that appears on my monitor and nothing else happens after that. So I did an uninstall and then re-installed and the same thing.

Next I uninstalled again and did a clean up (deleted) of any folders and/or files that were saved under my C:\Stardock Games and the folders created under My Documents that related to Stardock Gal. Civ II games. I then did a registry clean (I ran two different programs) and restarted my computer to make sure everything was cleaned out.

Upon rebooting, I re-installed Ultimate Edition and I went into the ini file and set my resolution there to my monitor's native of 1680x1050...but I still had the same problem. Just a black loading screen would appear and nothing else would happen.

I can get the game to run in windowed mode, but the mouse cursor doesn't line up correctly with the buttons on the screen when I try to play in that mode. I have to drag the cursor under the button I want to click and half the menu buttons aren't responding anyways...

Seems that I'm having a similar problem you are with my Windows XP w/ SP3, so I would have to say it's not a OS issues, but more of a game issue that needs addressing. Guess I'm going to have to find something else to occupy my time today since I finally beat Fallout 3 (which the ending sucked).

If you by chance find a fix, let us know. I'll do the same.

 

Edit: Fixed by disabling SLI.

Yeah, there should be a start menu entry for it (barring that though, you can run it via Impulse rather than digging it out manually).

They're normal; the international bundles use different registry entries so the game has to check all of them.

It does not remove the folder under My Docs\My Games since that's where saves and prefs are stored.

 

 

When you reinstall, are you reinstalling all three games (DL/DA/TA)? And do they work or do they all have this issue? That may give some clue about it.

I'm not having any trouble with Dread Lords or Dark Avatar, playing just fine.  It's just Twilight that isn't installing correctly.
