Rock and hard place

I´m currently playing the campaign rock and hard place, where you have to ally the iconians and defend them from the Korath and Yor. I got bored from it after a while and decided to use cheats so I could see the next level. Well at a certain point I had a netto of 7+ relation factors and I had sold them aliances before, but our relation wouldnt get from friendly to close... Is this because I used cheats? Is it a bug? Is it just plain anoying? You tell me coz I am lost.

The relation factors I have:

++ for treaties

+ for militairy strength

++for trade

+ethical alignment

+diplomacy

+Too busy

-Militairistic

I hope someone can help me out, thanks.

There is no problem with the game or the cheats. This level just seems to annoy people. Maybe it's because you have to wait until your relations will make the randomly-triggered jump from close to friendly... just be patient and keep the gifts and freighters going.

Can you improve your diplomacy and get your own military rating up a lot compared to theirs?

I can't remember what I did to finish that scenario (during beta-testing so it's been a while) but I do remember it took some less obvious moves. If you don't get there, let me know and I'll see if I can figure out what I did.

There is another + you get after X amount of years w/o being at war with them...Historic Friendship or such.  Just click the years by a few more times...Checking the relations tab every so often.

Lots of thanks of the replies. It turned out I just had to wait a veeery long time before they´d turn to warm.

After I while I got a netto 8+ relation factors, and nothing happened. So I just continued to press turn and don't mind the game as long as the iconions had a planet left... And well, after a long while, I just wanted to give up, it suddenly happened. I did nothing special, it was just dumb waiting...

Anyway, the next level looks much better :D

Ah, excellent point Loupdinour, how could I forget the historical friendship element? :)

But it's true that it can be annoying sometimes that we don't understand what exactly flips the AI relation from 1 level to the next.
