Core Ships Have more space than designed ships

I noticed available coreships can carry more equipment than a user created one

Hi  everyone !

I play TWA (I have Galciv:EU), I play as coustum races (based on Dengian and Terrans repectively). I notice that the default core ships like for example

"Destroyer mk5" can carrry way more equipment than the same type of vessel I would try to create.

For example I built a default destroyer and when I tried to design the same ship myself, even if I only place weapons on it (the same kind) there is not enough space to match the default core design, which also has enginess, shields and life support. Is that a bug or what ?

Update to 2.02.  This was fixed in 2.01 or 2.02.

You're running 1.97, right?

You'll need Impulse, by the way.

You know how, as you go up in hull size on the custom ship screen, ship components take up a bit more space? The default ships used to avoid that restriction. Their components would always take up the same space as they would on a tiny ship. But as Sole Soul pointed out, they fixed that.

Actually, my understanding was that the auto-designer's ships were designed with maximum miniaturization in mind, rather than the current tech level.

Thanks guys, I will update. Do you think the update would take effect also in my current game ?

No.

Savegames contain version-specific information in GC2's implementation (as well as "time-specific" in that ships that you create in one game will not show up in a game already in progress but we can neglect that point for the moment).  Roughly 98% of the time, loading an old savegame will not give you any of the benefits that an update provides, because it's still operating on the information from the old version, which is what it has saved.

However, you won't even be able to load your current game.  2.0 produced enough changes that it necessarily broke all savegames prior to it (although for instance a 2.0 savegame would load in 2.02).

I have noticed a few of my computer built ships seem to be using weapons a few ticks up the teck ladder when a MK2 to MK3 or simular update is added to my shipyard. This will also be some not all and a few weapons might even be older styles in the mix. I have the newest updates for TW.
