Windows 7... anyone?

Windows 7... anyone?

I have just tried Deskapes under Windows 7 (64 bits) unfortunately all I got was a dialog stating that Desktop Windows Manager is not running.... tried to find it in Administrative Tools->Services but it seems the process was renamed or otherwise replaced by something else in Windows 7... so, no Dreams... snif... snif.

Is this only me?

Actually it appears it was SP2 that fixed the problem, at least for me. Denali worked fine yesterday and now am running anothor dream that used to give me the issue "BlissfullDream" and will post back once its time for it to change. <keeping my fingers crossed>

Opps dbl post sorry

Well Blissfull dream is working fine as well. No idea what in SP2 fixed things but its definitly my suspicion that it was something in it that resulted in the fix as untill I installed that anything that used transitions would fail

Any idea on an ETA for a beta win 7 compatible version. I don't mind waiting but at the same time can't help but hope:grin:

Nope. Probably as quickly as the final release for sale OS goes on market.

It's really exasperating seeing this post (and all the almost identical ones to it) when one looks at the Forums...and there's one EVERYday.

Well maybe it's exasperating... but the same goes for us. If only OD wold have a clearer product path then maybe we would stop asking all the time... just take a look at ObjectDock it's been two years since the last update... not even betas! And when I have asked... all I get is a "yes" there will be a version... sometime.

I mean no harm... I really love OD products, I have brought OD+ and an Object Desktop subscription (and renewed it) but still I think that OD product roadmap is never clear.

Oh so sorry for exaperating you. Maybe if you didn't bother to read this thread then it wouldn't bother you now would it? Face it, with a thread title like this one has "Windows 7... anyone?" what did you expect to read about in it. Just made sense to ask here instead of starting new threads since Shirley is actually paticipating in the thread and would probably know best.

Jess McGuay... just noticed that you've worked out your triggered dream problem.

Yeah it got fixed. Sadly tho, at least for now I'm only running Win 7 and haven't figured a way to use dreams with it, Waah :(

But I'm still grabbing everything you put out in hopes LOL

The beta for WindowBlinds 7 has been released, and the other Win 7 versions should be soon to follow.  They're coming, just not here yet.

Good news and I'll keep an eye out! Dreams are one thing alot of ppl beta testing Win7 really miss from posts I've read on technet etc.

Been testing Windowsblinds Beta for a couple of days... looking good. Thanks SD!

Is there a product path for SD apps under Windows 7 now?

So far there is a beta release for WindowBlinds 7 available to Object Desktop subscribers, but no other public updates that add Win 7 support.  More info on other releases will be posted when available.

You can expect betas of SkinStudio and IconPackager in the near future.

I know this might be a useless question to ask Zubaz, but I have talked with several people on this and they all agree.  Is there any way, since you are redoing SKS for Win 7 anyway, that it could be released in separate versions for each OS instead off an all-in-one as it is now?  Sure would make things a LOT easier.  Separate (and intuitive) versions for XP, Vista and Win 7 would be great!  Any other opinions out there, I hope?  :P

Or maybe even just separate working areas inside a single SKS, i.e. click XP to work on all XP stuff, Vista to work Vista etc., would be great too.  :)

Yeah that'd be nice but I'm not holding my breath :X

This is a more probable outcome.  Creating 3 completely different versions would become rather costly.

Stardock is stupid for waiting... Everyone else is already pushing Windows 7 Releases, Windows 7 is going LIVE and to the public in OCT 2009 and the RTM for developers has laready been released! Stay Blind, SD!!! That's how you keep your customers happy.

While we're stuck waiting for a beta of Deskscape for Win7 is there an easy way to convert *.dream files to either WMV or MPG format? I found a fix by Orbit30 that will allow those to run as desktop but unfortunatly it won't do Dream files :(

Who says we're waiting?  Just because no public betas have been released doesn't mean things aren't in development.

I seem to remember a saying about a bridge...

Well with Win 7 basically being RTM'd around the 13th, any chance of us seeing a beta of deskscape soon Shirley?
