Cannot start "Sins" Freezes after opening scene

I can start Sins of a Solar Empire, but once it gets past the "Stardock" "Ironclad" and Game Intro it Freezes up on the menu. I got new drivers from Nvidia, reinstalled the game from Impulse,  turned off bloom effect (I got into the menu 1 time, then it froze up, but it wouldn't do it again.) Any kind of help would be appreciated.

Is this with the base game or with the Entrenchment beta?

The base game, with the update installed from Impulse. I started the game this morning and it ran for about 3 minutes.

I was even able to change a few of the video settings down. Then it crashed and restarted my computer.

Then it crashed and restarted my computer.

A spontaneous reboot often means your computer is tossing a Blue Screen of Death but is set to not display it. BSODs are generally caused by hardware or driver problems, and the error message it shows can help pin down exactly what the issue is.

To have your computer display BSODs instead of rebooting immediately, go to Control Panel->System Properties->Advanced Tab->Startup and Recovery Settings and uncheck 'automatically restart'.

The next time it crashes, you may get a BSOD similar to the one below (not all highlighted parts may be present):

Write down the information in the highlighted areas before turning your computer off. The information there can then be researched online to see if others have experienced similar problems, and what the cause was. You may also get a 'windows has recovered from a serious error' message when you turn your computer back on--if you do this, you should agree to send the report to microsoft. You'll then be forwarded to information about that error on Microsoft's knowledgebase, if they have any.

Did as suggested got BSOD and info:

nv4_disp.dll

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Technical Information:

STOP: 0x00000050 (0xF4B924D8, 0x00000000, OxBFA8795A, 0x00000002)

nv4_disp.dll - Address BFA8795A base at BF9D5000 Date stamp 491b68ff

I tried looking it up on the internet. Tried a few of the suggestions (reinstalling video drivers, etc.), still no luck.

However, a friend suggested letting the intro play instead of skipping it, and I was able to get into the menu, turn down all the video settings and disable all effects. The game played for about 5 minutes before we hit a BSOD(above info). So, to sum up, if I skip the intro, the menu locks up before I can do anything. If I let the intro play, I get about 5 minutes of game time before BSOD. I'll keep looking into it myself, but if anyone has any suggestions, helpful comments, experience with this issue (or similar issues), or anything else that might help, I would be very grateful.

Hard to say exactly what it might be (could be any sort of hardware failure or driver bug), but just in case you haven't already, you may try opening your machine up and blowing any dust out of the heatsinks in case it's a heat issue.

Thanks Ill give that a try, I am also going to a friends house to atart swapping hardware out to see if that will solve the problem.

I ran into nv4_disp bluescreens (in a different context, not Sins) a while back.

As far as I can tell, most are triggered by 3d games making use of your nvidia card, and there being some sort of driver or memory error.

Often it can be that the memory aperture assigned by the BIOS does not match the amount of memory the card is trying to use, or bad memory.

Run memtest, and check your BIOS settings, and update your video drivers.
