TA won't load in EU bundle

I've an odd problem. I've got the EU bundle and have been playing DA on my workstation here at home. I wanted to try TA having played it earlier in the day on my laptop but it won't start. I just get a large black box on the screen and nothing happens, it just never gets to the main menu.

Any ideas?

Curiouser and curiouser! I changed the desktop color to 16 bit and tried to start it and it warned me that it worked best in 32 bit. So I changed it back and now it works!
