Ok I'm either blind, stupid, or all the above. Ive looked everywhere to find the freaking command to turn on and off the planety grid. Right now I have it off and its making the game nearly unplayable for me.

Yes, it's in the interface settings, and if you have it off, holding the ALT key shows the grid, as well as health bars, planet names, etc.
yes but i'd like to turn my tactical grid back on so it stays on instead of having to toggle it.
