Destabilisation, how much money to spend

Did i spell that right???

I was playing a game trying to go all trade. I had 10 trade routs all at 300+ turns in lenght giving me something like 2500-3000bc income/turn
I was trying to stay friendly with people but a war broke out and i had to pick side. I was good so it was mainly a good vs evil war. Now i ask because i didn't have any military at all, only money, i spend some 1500bc each turn into destabilisation on one of the eveil races i was in war with. But how much dose this help??? what is the best way to aid allies when you don't have a military your self. Is it even posible to play this way.
Your also very fragile when all your econmey is on the trade because if they go after yout routes then your done. How do you protect these routes?

thx for any input

Destabilization simply lowers morale. If you have espionage high enough to see enemy morale, you can see it go down/up as you raise/lower the slider. It's mostly good if your enemy has planets in a sector where you or an ally has a very strong influence. The combo of low morale + your influence might get a planet to defect. There are other nice effects, too, like senates voting your opponents party out of office, etc., but they're harder to track.
