How long to continue after conquering?

I completed my first game in Sins the other night, playing as TEC on a small solar system against 1 enemy. Thoroughly enjoyable and just a little stressful (in a fun way - although possibly not the best way to prepare for professional exams)

 

After completing I was given the option of continuing to play on for a while, so I did and wiped out the Pirate base which was there.

 

My question is, how long is it worth playing on for (I assume the larger maps have more going for them) - is there really that much of an incentive to continue playing after having conquered your enemies?

 

How long do you play on for and what reasons?

The only time I play after is if I want to experiment a bit. Maybe kill the pirate base or if I'm just about max fleet, I might max it out. Other than that, no real point in playing.

Sometimes I keep playing if I ended with an alliance and I just want to have one more massive fleet battle. Since the AI always needs an enemy, if you continue with an ally after you won, they'll go to war with you immediately. Other than that, stats aren't tracked after the first victory, so other than screwing around a bit there's no reason to continue.

I always quit, check out my stats and go looking for the next MP game

If it strikes your fancy you could colonize every planet & fully upgrade them (it can be fun to see what you can find on a planet when you explore it), then put trading hubs and refineries at every planet. Even on a small map you can have heavy trader traffic which can be fun to watch.

You could go even further and max out defenses on every planet,  then you can max out your fleet cap where you can either have a massive fleet or several smaller ones based at several planets (or one).

 

In short you can make your own little empire as you see fit, but like most I don't have the patients and just quit once I beat the AI/foolish mortal.

I recomment continuing to play as long as it's fun and/or as long as you're continuing to learn about the game and to improve your ability to play it.  Eventually you'll probably get tired of finishing off games that have been decided.  Then you'll increase the difficulty level.  And then you'll conclude that the AI is predictable and not very challenging unless you're playing with unlocked teams or locked teams on a shorthanded team or playing against the Unfair AI.

Once you free pretty comfortable with the game, you'll probably want to investigate the online multiplayer scene where you can play with and against real, live human teammates and opponents for a greater challenge and sense of camraderie.

Just watch out for anyone with a name starting with [DT] - they are hard core!!!

(Except when I have to get them a win )

That was a good game - I enjoyed it - 2nd last on 1.05 (I patched this morning before work - now all I have to do is wait until I get home tonight to log in and try 1.1!!!)
