So how DO I download the english version of GalCiv II?

I´ve bought the german version of GC II: DL. Since the translation is horrible, I´d like to play in english. In another thread it was suggested that to switch languages, downloading the english version would be the easiest way. The problem is: How?

Where is the download link? There´s no link either in "Downloads" or "Purchases" on this site. On Stardock, when I select the download they start asking me for billing information... but I do *own* the game already, and I´ve registered it. Am I missing something here?

Thanks in advance.

If SDC sends you to a purchase page when you try to install, that means that the game isn't properly registered. Try reregistering your serial, and barring that, contact [email protected].

Un- and Reinstalled everything, downloading via Stardock works fine now. Thanks!

P.S. Still I must say that 1) changing game language should take no more effort than changing a line in some .cfg file, especially since the english data files were in the game folder all along. Having to uninstall / Download the whole game just to get rid of the crappy translation seems somewhat exaggerated to me.

2) It took me some time to figure out that I need Stardock Impulse to download. An appropriate link in the "Download" or "Purchase" section of this site might help.

One more thing: the tech tree descriptions are *still* in german (and who knows what else)! Now this is VERY odd, given that I uninstalled the game before downloading it again. It seems there is no pure english version available. Arghh! Any ideas?

You may check that you don't have a left-over mod, that modifies tech trees, active ( uncheck the box : "Use Mods" https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Game_Options )

Barring that I would either :

-search the directories for the xml files for techs and see if there's not a left over german one AND an english one present

-or uninstall (yet again yes I know) and check that there's not any left over files/directories

please note that I only have english DL,DA,TA so my advices are to be taken with a grain of salt, though that's what I would do in your situation

Uninstalled and deleted everything, with still the same result. Turned out the german language was in the (campaign-) save games (huh?). Started a new campaign, and everything is as it should be now.

Thanks again for the help.

This would be a symptom of save games using the files/version they are started with; a common example of this is not being able to insert new ships into an active game.

Glad you found (and fixed!) the problem, though.
