Advanced (whatever) colonization?

I'm new to GalCiv.  Just to get familiar with the various research improvements, I'm playing a huge cakewalk game.

I'd researched Aquatic Worlds Colonization and have colonized a couple.  Now "Advanced Aquatic Worlds Colonization" is available.  The description says:

Colonize Aquatic Worlds +50%

What does that mean?  It seems to me that you can colonize them or you can't.  I researched it, hoping that maybe my aquatic worlds would have more sectors available, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

What does it do?

Also, is there somewhere that has more descriptive explanations for the research improvements?

BTW... On this site, if you click on Databanks and then Wiki, it's a broken link.

the first tech gives you the planet at 50% efficiency, the advanced brings it up to 100%

The first level of an enviro tech enables colonization, but the world is limited to 50% of its production capacity. When you have the Advanced levels, extreme worlds function just like regular worlds.

The GC wiki is here.

Also note that the 50% is for production on the planet. You can still get full research if you buy/build research buildings on those planets before getting the advanced colonization for said planet.

Thanks everyone.

Lots of this will probably be a little more obvious once I've played for a while.
