Going out of my mind against the AI!

Hi all, I just picked up this game and am loving it. Except for one thing: Every AI oppnent I face just resorts to sending a huge wave of siege frigates, blows up my planet, and then runs off back to his territory. I like to keep my upkeep under 50% and have a few midsize fleets to attack with. My static defenses aren't capable of killing the frigates in time to save the planet no matter how much health it has, nor how many turrets/hangers i happen to have. My fleets are usually all tied up taking a planet. Do i just suck up the lost income for more ships to station at endangered planets or am I missing something?. Any tips would be greatly appreciated

Hangars with fighter craft will help.  Siege has light armor, and fighters are anti light, so they are optimal defensees against siege.  You also don't have to worry about blanketing your planet with turrets because fighters fly to the enemy.  I would still use some turrets, and augment it with hangars.  Maybe even keep a couple carrier cruisers in outlying systems.  Also, upgrade the planets bunkers so they can survive long enough for your defenses to kill the siege.

Thanks for the tip! i'll try using fighters instead of bombers in my hangars.

Also try updating your game to a newer version.  The AI has received updates since retail game release version 1.0.

Visit (www.impulsedriven.com ) and download/install IMPULSE (stardock's new digital distribution system), register your game and download game version 1.05 (the latest non-beta).

thanks,

The AI is very easy to defend against. I never use more than 5 turrets on any given world. Just place then close to your planet facing the point the AI enters your gravity well. The AI doesnt bother to avoid the turrets. Use hangar defence, and repair stations for the remainder of your tac slots. I usually have a minimum of 3 hangers. Dont forget to leave some room for shield generators, and jump inhibitors. The current static defenses arent meant to turtle your worlds. Just to hold the enemy off long enough for a fleet to jump in. This is of course vs a human player. The AI is incredibly stupid, and can be easily turtled.

I usualy build about 4 repair platforms on top of each other with a jump inhibitor, about 4 hangers and some turrets on point. All of these are arranged and packed together so they all overlap, and then I park a few carriers or LRM friggets inside the group. It makes an effective defense against the AI in most cases.

Not to be condescending, don't forget to invest in upgrades that can help track the enemy's fleet. -VERY IMPORTANT- The AI just loves to flank the hell out of you when your off attacking worlds. Very annoying indeed but it sure helps alot to keep tabs on them at a distance.

But with the defense I suggested, I managed to defend a world for 45 min from about 100 ships. My Capital ship with the long range support with 3 LRM friggates and 2 carriers managed it untill one of my main fleets could back them up.
