SoaSE causes computer lock-up

Using PC/DVD version of the game with the following equipment:

Intel Core 2 Quad processor Q6700
Vista 64-bit (Game has to be run in 32-bit, of course)
6 GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce 9500GS vid card/256 MB
Screen resolution changed to match game

Latest drivers for vid card, latest updates to Vista.  Card temperature monitor shows normal temp range at all times.

First install with default/auto settings had X2 anti-aliasing and all graphics on HIGH.  Crashed (by that I mean the whole machine locked up, had to unplug it) about 3 minutes into the first tutorial, 3 times in a row.  Reset anti-aliasing to none.  Tried again, crash happened almost 4 minutes this time.

Uninstalled game, reinstalled game.  Same results.  Changed all graphic settings to LOW and made it through all but the last tutorial before crashing again.  Restarted, finished last tutorial, crashed about 3 minutes into game.

No matter what I try, even with the lowest settings this game won't play longer then 4 or 5 minutes without totally locking up my machine.  NO OTHER game does this, and there are no others I cannot use HIGH or HIGHEST levels of graphics and all the anti-aliasing they have to offer and they play just fine, don't even come close to resource limits.

So what's the problem that's causing this?

Please update your game to (at least) the latest official version which is v1.05 (there is a BETA 1.1 version v1.096 out but it's not necessary to update to the BETA).

You'll need to install IMPULSE (stardocks new digital distribution system) which can be found at (www.impulsedriven.com ) in order to update your game to version 1.05 and any future versions.

Thanks for your reply.

Okay, that was fun - getting Impulse to connect.

Now that I have a connection, exactly how or where do I find this version 1.05 update?

The only thing I see on there is a Store to purchase games, nothing about updates.  Search for "updates" takes me to Google!

So once I connect, where do I go to get this update?

I don't have access to a computer capable of running Impulse at the moment, but from memory, left or right-click on SINS once you're in the Games tab of Impulse.  Options should appear on the right side of the screen or upon mouse click to update to the current version.

Failing this, there should also be an Update tab within Impulse that can assist you in getting patched to 1.05 or even the 1.1 Beta that's been out for a while now.

Okay, once you launched Impulse click the key icon in the top right corner (below the minimize/close). This should open the registrations screen. Click Add Registration, select Sins and enter the serial (with dashes!).

Then, click on My Games and it should show a yellow (!) icon over Sins, and when you click it on the right hand side it'll show 1.05 as the latest available. Click the Update button and it'll download and update it automatically.

If you want to try the beta patch (if for some reason 1.05 doesn't fix it), click the blue orb in the top left and select "Show pre-release versions", then it should show 1.095.

Note that you can't roll back patches through Impulse so you'll either have to back up your 1.05 or make an Impulse archive if you want to go back to 1.05.
