Desktop icon shortcuts for websites disappear

Windows Vista 32-bit desktop icons for websites disappear when I go to site and leave, sometimes then, sometimes on reboot

I am a member of XM Radio and Netflix and like shortcuts to the websites on my Vista Windows desktop. But when I go to the site and log-ion, the icons go away, sometimes right away, and sometimes upon reboot. I have tried to add the icon again to each shortcut with no success. How can I fix this?
