Single player map recommendations

All i'm plaing currently is single player and there are so many to choose from and I'm wondering if there are any maps that you all can recommend to me.  Are there any maps that are large but have choke points?  I've been playing the gateway map and it's really fun to hold several AI's at bay at a single choke point for those epic defenses.  What maps are out there that share this type of gameplay where there are two stars linked by one planet?  I only ask because I'm new to this and i'm still learning the micromanaging and i find it easier to learn the tech tree's and overall planet deveolpement when I only have to worry about enemies coming at me from one phase lane.  As much as I love the battles, I enjoy the empire building and the infrastructure and I want a map that allows me to focus on that and not so much defending 8 planets from attacks from 15 directions with varied ships fleet compositions.

Any recommendations?

one of my favorite maps is the Hub galaxy. there is a whole bunch of planets on your little section and to get to everyone else you have to destroy the Pirates which have the center planet in the galaxy. it is really good if you like building up your fleet for a while because the AI doesn't attack the Pirates unless they outnumber the Pirate forces by a rediculous amount. you can find it here https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?skinid=121&libid=70

That looks solid.  It's great for me in the fact that I get to play with the empire structure first and get familiar with all the workings, but at the same time focusing on attack with solid battles towards the end.  good practice.  thanks.

This may be a noobish question, but where should one put the file?  Running 1.1 beta.  The map doesn't appear anywhere (I've tried it in programfiles/stardock/totalgaming/sinsofasolarempire/galaxy, as well as in the application data/mods area without success.)

It should be in the install directory's galaxy folder, and it will appear with all the regular maps.

to get the maps working on the beta you have to open them up in notepad and at the to it has the version or somthing like that. it is a 1 change it to 2 and your maps should appear in the game.

I make my own maps. If you specify 4 rings, with 10-20 planets each, with min phase lanes and short phase lanes (sliders full left), you start out on the edge of the system with a limited route to the center and many choke points. I tend to have a small ring of terrens around the sun, and first one there has to defend them.
