Vista Business 64-bit SP1, Won't work even with Mpeg-2 codecs!

Hi everyone. I just bought DeskScapes. Sitting on Vista x64 Business SP1, fully patched and all. Aero enabled. I got all the codecs as well. I even tried K-Lite x64 and rebooted. Still it nags that I don't have mpeg-2 codec! Now, the dreams which won't work, I can see their thumbnails ( which I didn't before installation of the codec ) so I think something is wrong here. I can watch mpeg-2 movies just fine. What can I do to solve this issue? This isn't too fun because not only I bought DeskScapes, all the "good" dreams seem to be mpeg-2 stuff. I'm grateful for any remedy|help on this issue. Thanks!

Please try running through the trouble shooting steps highlighted here just in case.

I had something of the same trouble with my PC under the same circumstances. Eventually I reinstalled PowerDvD and with it a great quality codec that worked. If you have access to DvD software like that often times the same sort of codecs come bundled with them. There are also several codec packs out there for sale beyond the free ones that are worth trying. For an official recommendation you will need to ask other around here. Or perhaps they will post here on their own......*cough*.......

Thanks for the help. I tried Stinky codec, no help.

They ask me to post my entire Windows Log, which I'm not really keen to do. I can manually read the log file for them and find an event which is related to this issue myself and send them. However, DWM ( Desktop Window Manager ) is running just fine.

Edit : DirectX is running fine too, all accelerations "Enabled".

I also got the latest DeskScapes since I just bought it a couple of days ago.

I have posted a support ticket though, awaiting their reply, nothing yet but it's probably due to weekend. :)

I'm going to test this with PowerDVD, I hope it works!

Thank you.

Finding a full 64 bit codec is hard.  Most run in 32 bit mode.

Here at work I have a 64bit Vista machine. I ended up using my Power DvD software to install the codecs I need. There are several software types out there that are included in products like these. You can also purchase just the codecs though several vendors like Microsoft. 64bit often needs a decent amount of extra effort.
