My thoughts? Oh, my, I think nuclear war would be GRAND, don't you agree? Think of us all sleigh riding in the nuclear winter! Here's MY message to the world: If you GOT a bomb, DROP IT!

Did you know after a Nuclear War there will not be a single place in the world you can run to avoid the fallout because the radition will spread across the world killing all humans?
Watched it in a movie with Armand Assante (Submarine Commander) and he spends his last days in Australia before everybody dies.

Yeah, right. I think that it would something like this. Russia thinks the US attacked them thanks to faulty early dector systems. Russia launchs nukes at US, Europe, and Israel. They retaile. Israel attacks Muslim and Arab Capitals, and Pakistan. Pakistan, India, and China go at it. Then hundreds of millions are dead. That's about it.

The big threat is not a country like Russia, US, China, etc. using a nuclear weapon, the big threat is that an Islamo-Fascist or just plain Fascist group gets a nuke from a non-allied nation of their intended target and uses the weapon.

Here it goes. terrorist hijacks American Nuke and uses it on Russia or India (If terrorist is Pakastani). They retaliate. Radiation spreads over the entire world. Human race is eraticated.

There is a whole (pardon me) SHIT load of nuclear material that is lying around unguarded. Pakistan is in fragile control of it's nuclear capability, and I really don't give India much more credit. Add Iran and North Korea into the mix, and I feel like the nuclear threat is MUCH greater than the cold war.

Our popular culture is full of any number of scenarios, most of which end in the complete crippling if not total destruction of the planet.

Raised in the Cold War rhetoric of deterence, it is hard to imagine the effective use of tactical nuclear weapons on the "battlefield" (read: euphemism for someone's bombed out neighborhood). And yet, it seems to me I've heard a few rumors that the neo-cons that have President Bush's ear suggest tactical nuclear weapons as an option worth considering. So one scenario that scares the bejesus out of me is that he'll actually try it and not consider the likelihood of retaliation or that such a use might open a whole can of (radioactive) worms. Is that likely...well...it is a scenario.

The Armand Asante movie was actually a remake of a 60's adaptation of a famous cold war novel...all going by the name On the Beach

What if: the American public freaks out during this and breaks into one of those nuclear proof VIP bunkers and then the Human Race would survive. Or if The President or who ever will survive.

Unlikely, because when the bunkers were built they still did not have an exact idea how long a nuclear winter would last.

I think the biggest problem would be a terrorist group getting their hands on a nuclear weapon from Russia, Pakistan, or some other country, and detonating it in Israel. Israel retalliates, and the Middle East becomes glass. The only way to prevent a nuclear attack is to get rid of nuclear weapons.

Well, they were supposed to do that with bio/chem weapons too... but a lot of people kept them anyway for "preventative" research.
