While I'm sure Monk might have a field day with this one.. rest assured that the upcoming Sins 1.1 patch will eliminate the need to mess with any router settings.

The patch is currently in public beta testing so if you like you can try it out yourself, just keep in the mind there are fewer people playing the patch beta online.

a router is a devise that sinds the internet into and outof your comp, it also helps to stop hackers and viruses from getting into your comp.

Mr_Blunt3d,

Fist I'll quote from a post I made to another fellow just a few minutes ago....

IMPERIAL_SHADOW,

two options...

1. If you're on game-version 1.05 or less, please download and follow the steps in my guide "Networking and SINS" linked-to right under the GREEN writing in the OP of
this thread.

2. Each of you go to www.impulsedriven.com, download IMPULSE (Stardock's new distribution system and the only way to get all future patches). Install it, then click the blue ORB in the upper right corner and click "show pre-release versions" and update SINS to the 1.1 BETA (version 1.09) which will not require you to forward any ports etc.

thanks,

the Monk

Second...

If you should have problems with either of those two options, I'll be more than happy to assist you further.

You can send me a PM (on these forums), or hit me up on xfire (the1monk) and if you have TeamSpeak I'll get you on my TS server to talk you through the steps. (of course I would appreciate you actually downloading and reading my guide first :) )

thanks,

the Monk

No - that is a firewall. A router allows more then one computer to sit behind an internet connection and share it.

Maybe stay away from trying to host if you don't even understand what a router is. This is kind of like saying "How can I race a car" and then going "What is a car?"...

Mr_Blunt3d,

Any reply to the help I provided in my reply (reply #3)?

Have you tried either of those suggestions? Having issues with either?

Feedback is necessary to keep helping someone.... :p

You might want to try the 1.1 beta (AKA 1.09) using Impulse.

Hi there again

I have tried to set up my router o2 broad band

and gettin no where

Port 6000 and 6112 are open Fire wall is off and still not able to host

If any at ironclad spend 5 10 minutes in the loby it is clear that I am not the only one with the problem.

Question

Is Ironclad in breach of the trade description act and therefore laible to be sued

as they are selling somethink that does not work.

I have paied £29.99 and feel that I have been cheated

I dont want to download other stuff

I just want to put the disc in install the game and have fun

Clearly if there is a working verion some where it should be made avvaliable by the Update button that came up at the game start up screen.

I have seen Firewall.exe in the directory but that does not work.

I am very disapointed

What is all this bull about beta this and that I did not payed god maney for a beta

folow up

dont get me wrong I apreciate the help the Monk and such are triing to give

but dont you think that replyes such as the one regarding sports car (SEE HACK78)

are at least patronising

There is someting realy wrong with this game and the developer has the duty to fix it

This is such apity because the game is in itself quite god when it works

what is Ironclad and Kalipso doing about it?

Do they realise that we as customers can realy dammage their reputatition

Bksabath,

1. Your own network/PC setup is your responsibility. IronClad/Stardock have no responsibility with regard to your own network/PC. I (and other volunteers) have been doing this community a favour in helping people understand their own networks/pc's. Not I, or any other volunteer or SD and IC have any responsibility in configuring your networks to work with SINS.

2. There is nothing wrong with this game. You can join any "properly" hosted game out there.

analogy:
If you can't figure out how to change the oil in your car and cause your car to breakdown, it is YOUR fault. Not the car-makers fault that you couldn't read a manual/guide/faq and follow the proper steps.

3. Please pay attention to my replies to you. I have told you TWICE now, that game patch 1.1 introduces new optional netcode which allows those people who can't (because they don't control their own routers) and those who won't (because they refuse to help themselves by reading a guide on the topic) to be able to HOST GAMES WITH NO PROBLEMS.

The BETA of patch 1.1 (v1.09) is available for download by using IMPULSE (www.impulsedriven.com) and I myself can attest to the fact that "Alloy" (the new netcode) allows hosting behind any firewall.

As I have stated to you several times now, you have two choices. Stay with version 1.05 (and learn to configure your own network) or get the 1.1 BETA (and be merrily on your way ;-p). Please read my posts completely Bksabath. I don't usually talk crap....

On a seperate note Bksabath. Threatening the DEVS with a "tarnished rep", or "breach of anything...." usually doesn't garner good results. My guide works 100% of the time where a user has full control over all routers/nat-devices between them and the internet. If that's not you, then I suggest you stop whining and move to v1.1 BETA.

Have a nice day!

I wouldn't say patronising - I would say it is an analogy!!! (Car ones get used as most people can relate).

The question that was asked originally is "What is a router?"(actually "whats a router"). If someone doesn't know that, then they shouldn't try to configure one should they??? Hence the analogy about trying to race without knowing what a car is.

The game does work - I can host. So the game is not broken. The environment you are trying to host in is mis-configured for Sins if YOU cannot host...

Computers and networking are complicated things. If you cannot follow the steps (as opposed to being blocked by lack of security access), then it is too complicated - simple as that. You need to seek external help (e.g. if The Monk is nice enough to talk to you online etc...)
