Start Menu help in SKS6

I need a nudge in the right direction

from WinCustomize Forums
When skinning a  start menu for a vista WB in SKS6, how can I adjust the width of the search box at the bottom?

I have experimented with the code editor and also looked at other WB's... I just can't find the answer!

Can anyone help?

On the Bottom Bar in the Start Menu section, click on the extra tab and scroll down to the last 2 items: Search Box Horz Offset and Search Box Vert Offset.

Change the values until you get the effect you want.

The Horizontal and Vertical offset will only adjust the positioning a bit, it wont make it wider.


The width of the search bar is determined by the width of the Programs List (left side) of the start menu. The search bar will stretch to fit that whole area. So, if your Programs List only goes halfway across the start menu, that's all the search bar will do.

By doing this, the Vert Offset allows me to shift the search box up or down. By changing the value in the Horz Offset, it will adjust the left margin of the search box, but the right margin stays put. I would like the left margin to stay put and the right margin to move in.

This would be exactly what I need IF I could get the right margin to move! X-(

I did it with my Organic Blind. All I had to do was increase the size of the left side and decrease the size of the right side of the start menu(by the same ammount). I did it under the 'Extra' tab for each side, change the 'width of the part' (for Vista). I did not change any of the graphics...all I did was tell SKS6 what size it was supposed to be.

You may not be able to do it, depending on what your start menu looks like, but I did it in mine and it fixed the width of the search bar and the positioning of the log off/shutdown buttons.

The horizontal coordinate will only adjust the left side of the box from left side of screen.
