1.1 Beta Feedback

I just thought it would be nice if people could post their observations concerning the upcoming 1.1 Beta release of SoaSE scheduled for Thursday, 07.24.2008.

As I am in the middle of making a teaser video for my mod I can't just upgrade my game because it would require a lot of fixing, particulalry textures, but I am very interested in seeing how does the facelift work out, so screenshots are also very welcome!

Aside from that I am sure modders here would benefit from a consolidated thread dealing with various broken stuff in their mods after they upgraded their core game. ;)

Well? Anyone updated yet? Lemme see what they mean by that updated rendering engine and damage animations (so I can see if I need to make mine even better, muhehe)!

LOVE the explosions and the extra fighter/bomber wing in my TEC carriers. I haven't had much time to play it yet because I just got home from work. :) Liking what I see so far.

the explosion effects really stand out to me as the most obvious enhancement, I thought for 1 sec I saw a proper turret on the Dunov Battlecruiser  ;) must need a little space oil seems to be jammed atm  ;p

So far I've noticed the TEC Capital ship factory got a new look. TEC Bombers, and Advent Fighters/Bombers also. The Advent's strikecraft don't look so much like chrome drones anymore. I have two screenshots in the "It's Thursday" thread.

But yeah, I like the new explosions, sort of like a burning fireball :)

But honestly, what gives with you guys releasing such a huge patch with almost no bugs? I mean, the only two actual meaningful bugs found so far is the strikecraft not scuttling properly and the artifact thing. :P Stop coding so well :(

I havn't noticed anything bad game play wise yet. 'Cept the major fleet guarding an AI homeworld on normal (good thing not bad). AI seems to be attacking a little more than previous builds.

TBH i liked the old cap ship explosions better. The new FX seem like upscaled frigate explosions with a small ring added.

New models are always cool :)

Biggest bug so far is that 1.09 will break any and all mods. However we already knew this was going to happen.

Well, better AI is always a good thing!
Though if the AI is no longer running rather than defending their homeworld, what the hell am I supposed to do with them interdictor cruisers! :p

As for explosions, after a careful, critical look I must say, that in all fairness, my explosions are hot damn beautiful. I wanna hug them until I burn my eyebrows off, that's how good they are.

:p

Hyah. I've been up all night wrapping up the teaser video.

Does it show?

Anyway, about mod breakage, that's not a bug, that's a feature. Otherwise our lives would be too dull. ;)
Though I would be very interested why were specular and team color maps switched? I assume there was some rendering reason, that's why I also assumed the rendering engine would get a noticeable visual upgrade... so anyone noticed it? Not that the original engine is not good - hell, its one of the more robust ones I've seen since Half-Life 2, just curious.
