n00b Strategies. + Hitting the ground running.

n00b Strats

Hi, I just bought the game today, because i was looking for a new RTS to get into..

Here is my main question. What is THE basic strat that any n00b should learn before trying to figure out the advanced strats and mechanics of the game.

My first ever game against the CPU I basically spammed LRMs from 2 frigate factories....  then followed with some siege frigates to blow up his planet...

Obviously this is pretty bad, seeing as I didn't even colonize..
So.. converse plz, tell me how I should "hit the ground running"

As the TEC I build six or seven Cobalts, a colony frigate and a capital ship factory straight off the bat, and build a Capital ship as the first one is free. I usually make a Kol since I like killing rebels quickly, but that's just me. Other people like to build an Akkan since that can colonise planets on it's own.

Your Cobalts go in one direction and the Kol goes in another, clearing the surrounding areas of the rebel scum while the colony frigate puts people on the ground.

And that's basically it for me at the start. Expand until contact, then consolidate forces and bring up reinforcements.

As a TEC commander I usually build about five Cobalt Frigates and build a capital ship factory at first, and some research stations. I then build a Sova Carrier or Kol Battleship, since they are both heavy hitters. And like grey said, people might go with the Akkan since it colonizes' on it's own.

I send the Sova/Kol and two Cobalts in once direction while the rest go in another. I take out the pirate ships and expand as far as possible. Once I have contact with Vasari or Advent, I bring in a couple more Cap ships and frigates.

Just me though.
