Installing downloads

Hey all, I'm a newbie player, and I'm wondering where I am supposed to install the various downloads I have gotten, such as maps and mods.

Any help would be appreciated.

Vista:
C:\Users\your username\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\

XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\

Please note that some of these directories are hidden by default. To unhide them, go to Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View and set yourself to view hidden files and folders.

Maps go in the galaxy folder, mods in the mods folder.

Correction, most maps need to go in the galaxy folder where the game is installed at, rather than the user folder. This is generally something like C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\Sins of a Solar Empire.

Really? When putting in the users folder one, they just show up as another set. (Custom Maps, right after Large Scenarios when you press change maps.)

Of course, I've never actually played the one map I have there. Does something not work right there? How many times have you answered this before?

The game treats user folder maps as ones made in-game. Those ones vary from the GF maps in that there are no start points (they're placed at runtime), so it'll cause problems if you try running the wrong map from the wrong folder.
