Quick trade question

On the trade screen I noticed that there are 2 sets of numbers next to the route. Is the first how much you are making and the second the max that particular route will produce? If so, is there any way to increase it or does it just grow automatically over time?
If I'm correct on what those numbers are then thank you Stardock for fixing the trade stuff. I like to play small or tiny maps most of the time and a max income of 5bc before the update was not worth the price and time of building a trade ship.
